L31 is a long bodied, smooth topped, thick made bull. He is deep and soggy like his
dam. He is a big spread bull – negative BW to over +100 YW! Read more about sire
Hemisphere on page 33.
L31 offers a different pedigree for our repeat customers.
Dam E31’s sons have sold to repeat customers Jared Richman and Roger Cerven.
Her first son was a high performing bull that injured a leg and had to be culled. E31
has yet to give us a daughter, but maybe her 2013 calf by Headliner will be a heifer!
Two Pathfinder maternal sisters to E31 work in the Hoover herd.
Grandam V65 is most noted for being the grandam of Hoover Dam. V65 weaned at
648 lbs., WR 103, YW 1062 lbs., YR 113, IMF 6.12, ratio 129, ribeye 11.4”, ratio 105.
L31 is an excellent choice for heifers. He offers a very balanced set of EPDs with
no holes. L31 ties as the 3
rd
lowest BW EPD yearling bull to sell and has the 4
th
highest CED.

A full brother to Hoover Dam! Flush brother to lots 33-34. See footnote under lot 34.
L60 was the 4
th
top ET weaning weight bull calf of his crop. He has muscle, body,
length, thickness, excellent feet and a great disposition. He has many similarities to
his super star brother, Hoover Dam. Several visitors to the farm have him picked as
one of the very best.
L60 ties as the 3
rd
high Ribeye EPD bull of the auction!
L60 reads like he should be used on cows, but has a calving ease look to him.

Retaining 1/3 revenue sharing semen interest in this full brother to Hoover Dam.
L101 has the 5
th
highest Ribeye EPD among all bulls in this auction! You can
definitely tell this bull has lots of muscle, and he keeps improving as he gets older.
His ears got froze off pretty short, but that won’t hurt his ability to sire great sets of
calves! He has a well-balanced, nice set of EPDs.
L101 was the 2
nd
high weaning weight ET calf of our 2012 crop.
Flush brother to lots 32 and 34. See footnote under 34.

$EN – is bigger better?
I was asked if I was concerned about bulls with negative $EN values.
“Nope”, I replied, “The more negative, the better. Don’t expect me to bring
home a positive $EN bull anytime soon.”
Let me explain. $EN is a $Value index that expresses differences in
cow energy requirements. Expressed in dollars per cow per year, higher
values indicate higher savings. In theory, higher values are more ideal.
In tough environments where vegetation is scarce, a higher $EN would
be favorable. Cows with moderate milk and average growth are more
suited for these environments.
HOWEVER, a cow that eats less and has lower energy requirements
also produces less milk and weans lighter calves. In the Midwest where
we generally have ample forage sources for our cows (compared to
many regions of the country), I consider high $EN to be detrimental to
the bottom line of the cow-calf producer. High $EN cattle are typically
associated with poor growth and milking ability; conversely, negative $EN
cattle are high growth, performance cattle with good milking ability – the
kind of cattle that are most profitable to the vast majority of cattlemen
in the Midwest.
