A long bodied, good fronted calf with nice extension. He offers good rib shape, hip,
and a little more frame. Although L218 had a little larger birth weight in our herd, in
many herds, he would have been near average for birth weight, and certainly above
average for weaning weight.
Dam E32 always calves in mid to late February, and has a 367 day calving interval.
One excellent daughter has been retained in the herd and records 3-105 WR. This
female looks like she will have the qualifications to make the 2013 Pathfinder report.
Grandam V50, a Pathfinder, has been a tremendous cow. She is a herd bull maker!
Two sons were photo features in past auctions, and several sons and daughters
were among the top 15 weaning weight calves of their respective crops. She has one
Pathfinder daughter to her honor. V50 and her daughters are easy fleshing females.
Recommended for use on cows.

This calf has been a Hoover Dam leader since he was little! He was one of the
favorite calves of visitors to the “Haight” pasture this past summer. He is long bodied,
has some rib shape, length, and is wide based. He can be used on heifers or cows.
From 80 pounds at birth to over 800 pounds at weaning, this guy had the ability to
get up and grow!
Dam G273 looks like she has met the strict parameters to make the 2013 Pathfinder
report when it comes out the week after our sale. A beautiful, high performing heifer
by Hoover Dam has been retained as a replacement. G273’s first calf was selected
by Steve Loucks.
G273 has the 8
th
lowest BW EPD of any cow in production at Hoover Angus!
Grandam D275 has produced one daughter, G273, and I’m glad we kept her! Sons
have been selected by Highland Farms, Tom McDonald, Joy Brothers, and Chris
Brown. D275 maintains a 356 day calving interval.

L1 was born 17 days early, and named “Bryan” after Bryan Hawley who happened to
be visiting the farm that day and saw the calf just minutes after he was born.
Dam A52 presumably kicked Bryan out early because she had a twisted gut, which
we realized after she gave birth and was not feeling well. Christmas night about
midnight when I helped baby Bryan nurse the cow, I knew A52’s situation was bleak.
I hugged A52 and told her we’d take good care of her baby. It’s so hard to lose a cow
as good as A52 has been!
Bryan had hurdles at the beginning of his life – after A52 died, his first surrogate
mother didn’t accept him. It wasn’t until Bryan was about a month old when we finally
had a cow claim him as her own.
A52 produced four photo features in past auctions, and I’m sure Bryan would have
been her 5
th
if he hadn’t been held back when he was young. A52’s progeny have
been selected by Doc Nold (both a son and a daughter), Kam Hartstack, Jeff Vos,
Teamwork Acres, and Dwayne Scar. Doc Nold’s herd sire was the 3
rd
top weaning
weight bull calf of his crop at 810 pounds! He scanned a 15.7” ribeye.
A52 was as gentle as they come – truly a perfect disposition cow. She was always
so good and gentle to work with at calving time. She had an impeccable 357 day
calving interval.
A52 was a high performance female herself: BW 71 lbs., WW 696 lbs., WR 112, YW
1115 lbs., YR 108, IMF 4.80, ratio 103, ribeye 15.0”, ratio 107.
Bryan was A52’s lowest ratioing calf, undoubtedly because she didn’t raise him. I expect
Bryan to sire high growth calves – just look at the growth sires in his pedigree – CC&7,
Gridiron, and Neutron! Bryan certainly comes highly recommended! We do recommend
him for use on cows. He offers the 3
rd
highest Scrotal EPD in today’s auction!
8 Pathfinders are found in this pedigree!

You will notice the “H&K” prefix on occasion throughout this catalog. H&K stood for Hoover & Kiburz - the 1st and 2nd
generations of Hoover Angus Farm. In the fall of 2009, we began using the “Hoover” prefix instead of “H&K”, since Hoover
Angus Farm is now a 4th generation business. All females now born at Hoover Angus bear the name “Ellston” in their
pedigree name to signify the original Hoover homestead near Ellston, Iowa in 1856.
