BLACKBIRD OF ELLSTON C13
Bensons Mack 955
Blackbird of Ellston M254
Blackbird Thymac V230
“Laid Back” is a very fitting name for L57. The biggest bonus of buying this bull will
be the great disposition he puts in his calves – coming from both the top and bottom
sides of his pedigree he will positively change dispositions.
L57 is a bit bigger framed bull with lots of length, body, and a big scrotal. John is
especially fond of the T252 calves, including L57.
Dam C13 is a sweetie cow that maintains an excellent 365 day calving interval.
Chris Brown selected her first son to come to auction – the #1 adjusted yearling
weight bull of his crop! Repeat customers Deling Angus Farm and Young Angus
Farm have selected C13’s two daughters to come to auction.
Grandam M254 is now retired, but recorded 12-118 WR and a 358 day calving
interval. This has to be one of our all-time high records for weaning ratios. She was
a herd bull maker!
Recommended for use on cows.

John’s favorite bull of the crop all summer long because he is the biggest framed
bull, yet he has excellent thickness for a bull his size. Big boned, long bodied and a
fresh pedigree for our repeat customers give L72 an edge.
L72 was the 10
th
highest weaning weight bull calf of our 2012 crop!
Dam C131 is a big, stout, pretty Famous daughter with a superb udder for an 8
year-old! Her first son was a twin, and photo feature selling to repeat customer Brad
Rietveld. Her next son went to repeat customer Kirk Egbert in tough Idaho country.
Kirk reports he got along very well with his Hoover bulls.
C131’s individual performance: BW 70 lbs., WW 754 lbs., WR 114, YW 1080 lbs., YR
113, and she was a huge ribeye female, scanning a 14.8” ribeye, ratio 125!
L72 will definitely add frame and growth to his calves. We recommend him for use on
cows. He is the #1 WW EPD animal of the auction and has the 4
th
highest YW EPD
among the yearling bulls!

L141 is a long bodied, correct made, big hipped, tight sheathed bull with a head
shaped for calving ease.
Sire Gridiron certainly has longevity, as he will be 11 years old the day after our sale,
and he still sees natural service every summer. He has left us with a phenomenal
set of daughters.
E441 has a 348 day calving interval. Despite having a breech calf that we lost in
2011, she bred right back and calved on the exact same day in 2012 that she calved
in 2011! That’s pretty rare for stressful breech births.
Grandam C441 has earned Pathfinder honors, and a set of high performing twins is
not included in her ratios by the AAA. One son was the #1 adjusted weaning weight
bull calf of his crop, and the 2
nd
heaviest yearling weight bull. He sold as a photo
feature to long time repeat customer Roger Cerven. Repeat customers Roy and
Rick Reno and Dick Bissell selected C441’s other sons to come to auction. C441
maintains a 362 day calving interval.
Recommended for use on cows. 8 Pathfinders are found in L141’s pedigree.

L144 is a high volume, super deep bodied bull that is nice fronted, smooth made,
and thick. Typical of the Counselor sons, he has a big scrotal for his age. He will be
one of the most popular pedigreed bulls of the sale, and is emerging as one of the
top bulls of the yearling bull pen!
Dam’s first calf was the 15
th
heaviest weaning weight bull calf of his crop and sold
to Art Aberly. H151 is emerging as one of our top young CC&7 females. She has a
359 day calving interval.
H151 weaned at 666 lbs., WR 109, YW 933 lbs., YR 105. She was also one of the
top marbling females of her crop, with a 5.71 IMF, ratio 122.
Great grandam J270 produced until 14 years of age and recorded an average 107
WR on her calves! She had a 361 day calving interval and one Pathfinder daughter.
Recommended for use on cows.
