The 3
rd
high weaning weight bull calf of the 2012 Hoover crop! This brute of a bull will
add frame and growth to his calves! L148 is a deep bodied bull with lots of guts and
butt. He is a stout made dude with high libido. The best Determination calf we have
raised! At birth, I made a calving book note “great calf!”
★
★
Dam G250 is surfacing as a top young cow. Her 2011 son was the 3
rd
top weaning
weight bull calf of his crop, a tremendous young herd sire prospect that was super
deep and thick. He sustained a shoulder injury from which he did not recover.
★
★
We lost Pathfinder grandam D230 at a young age.
★
★
Great grandam produced until 16 years of age, recording 14-110 WR! She traveled
smooth and easy as she went to town after raising her last calf. G100 is the 4
th
generation dam of feature lot 27 bull.
★
★
L148 will be one of the best bargains of the sale due to his birth weight, for fear of “big
birth weights”. Consider this: Comparing L148 to other breeds using across-breed
EPD adjustment factors, L148 is really not a “big” birth weight bull. A Shorthorn bull
would need a -.7 BW EPD (best 10% of the Shorthorn breed) to match L148’s +5.3
BW EPD. Likewise, a Simmental bull would require a low +.1 BW EPD (best 10% of
the Simmental breed); a Hereford a +2.6 BW EPD (best 30% of the Hereford breed).

L241 is a good bull! He is long and stretchy with a level top and tight sheath.
★
★
Dam F219 produced a featured bred heifer daughter in our 2012 auction, selling to
Danny Reynolds. A full sister to this female is going into the replacement herd and
will have her first calf in February. This heifer is one of the very top females of her
crop! She is beautiful!
★
★
F219 had excellent performance data: BW 68 lbs., WW 673 lbs., WR 108, YW 974
lbs., YR 108.
★
★
Great grandam G100 produced until 16 years of age, recording 14-110 WR! She
traveled smooth and easy as she went to town after raising her last calf.
★
★
L241 has the same grandam and great grandam as the 3
rd
high weaning weight bull
of the crop, lot 28. Lot 27 feature bull stems from the G100 cow also.
★
★
L241 ties as the 4
th
top Docility EPD yearling bull to sell with a Docility EPD above
the top 1% of the breed! Recommended for use on cows.

A long bodied hunk! He is a big butted, big topped bull with good extension and a
little more frame. L29 was the 12
th
top weaning weight bull calf of his crop! He has
big potential for high red meat yield. L29’s two full brothers have scanned a 17.1”
and 17.0” ribeye!
★
★
L29 has certainly performed beyond what his EPDs project – this is because his
dam is a 12 year-old cow whose EPDs will never build despite her tremendous
progeny success. Take a look at her weaning, yearling and ultrasound ratios in the
boxes above, and let this be a guide to the tremendous success of this cow. For
X216 to raise a bull calf weaning at over 800 pounds as a 12 year-old cow, I’d say
she is doing quite well. Her calving interval of 356 days is exemplary.
★
★
X216 is the 7
th
high ribeye ratio cow of the herd! Her 6 sons have averaged a 15.8”
ribeye – over 3” above breed average for bulls.
★
★
X216 has brought 3 photo feature sons to auction, and L29 should have been one
also. X216’s only daughter to make it to yearling age records 2-106 WR and is a full
sister to L29.
★
★
L29 is recommended for heifers or cows. From less than 80 pounds at birth to over
800 pounds at weaning, this guy will put growth in his calves! He ties as the 4
th
top
Docility EPD bull of the auction! Don’t let his growth EPDs fool you into thinking his
calves won’t grow and outperform the rest!

Long-time repeat customer Carl Stephens was honored by the
Page County Cattlemen’s Association with their“Longevity”award
for his years in the business and service to the industry.
Congratulations Carl on a much deserved award! At the same banquet, Landi was the guest speaker with the topic: Championing
Agriculture in our Everyday Lives. In May of the same year, Southwest Iowa lost a great lady when Lois Stephens passed away. She
always came with Carl on his travels to Hoover Angus events. Landi is pictured here with Carl and Lois Stephens.
