A deep, square made bull with good length and bone.
★
★
L260’s dam was a first calf heifer. She calved exactly on her second birthday! She is
the CC&7 X Gridiron X 377 pedigree that has been so successful for us – the exact
same combination as Hoover Dam.
★
★
A full sister to dam J221 sells as a beautiful bred heifer, lot 137.
★
★
Grandam F10 has excellent fertility with a 351 day calving interval. Her 2012 calf was
a Valentine’s Day baby.
★
★
Read about the superb Z93 cow in lot 13’s footnote. She is still beautiful uddered at
11 years of age and still going strong!
★
★
L260 is a Reward son that would be an excellent choice for heifers.

From 81 pounds at birth to 811 pounds at weaning, this high growth Reward son has
a lot going for him. He has an attractive profile, is good quartered, and good rumped.
He is deep ribbed, level topped and has a lot to him. He’s caught my attention
several times when feeding bulls, and it’s my mistake he wasn’t a photo feature! He
has more frame than most Reward sons.
★
★
A full brother to L80 sold to repeat customer Tom Doud for $5000. This bull was the
5
th
top weaning weight bull calf of his crop. F92’s other son sold to repeat customer
Roger Tibben.
★
★
Pathfinder dam F92 is emerging as a top young cow. Her low birth weight ratios
to high wean ratios are superior. She ties as the #3 WW EPD cow in production at
Hoover Angus!
★
★
Take time to read about Pathfinder grandam in the footnote of lot 11.Another member
of this successful cow family produced the brute of a bull, lot 12.
★
★
Use L80 on heifers for a couple years, then make him your main herd sire without
sacrificing the growth of a typical “calving ease” bull.

L174 is one of the best T252 calves of the crop! He is deep ribbed, extra long bodied,
good hipped and good muscled.
★
★
T252 sons proved they could add frame, good growth, and superb dispositions in
our calf crop. T252 never gets excited, and about the only thing that makes him perk
up is a cow in heat! He is a pleasure to work with, as long as you aren’t in a hurry.
★
★
Dam E249 had twins in 2010 (not included her ratios by the AAA), and bred back
quickly, and moved up in time for her 2011 calving! Jerry Brown selected her son.
★
★
Read about tremendous grandam B305 in the last several paragraphs of lot 11. Lots
11-16 stem from this cow family.
★
★
Recommended for use on cows. He has a nice set of EPDs and outcross pedigree
for many of our repeat customers.

Why is $W
($Weaned Calf Value) important?
If you sell your calves after weaning or backgrounding, $W
is an important index to consider. The higher the $W, the
more potential you have for higher economic returns when
selling calves at this time. $W is also important if you retain
replacement females—low birth, high growth, optimum milk,
and an economical mature size are generally considered
favorable. Here is a peek at some of the interactions $W takes
into account.
Birth weight—for example, bigger birth weights can be
associated with more calving difficulty and death loss,
therefore lower birth weights are treated more favorably.
Weaning weight—higher weaning weights mean more
pounds to sell, which is favorable. However, the higher
energy requirements for heavier weaning weights are
taken into account.
Maternal milk—varying cow milk levels mean differences
in weaning weights and costs related to lactation energy
requirements.
Mature cow size—to put it simply, bigger cows eat more
feed. It really is more complicated than that, but generally
speaking, a smaller cow will require less inputs for
maintenance, and therefore is favorable to the calculation
of $W.
38 Hoover-owned females rank in or above the top 1% of
the breed for $W!
Lots 11-16 all trace back to Blueblood Lady Ellston F33, an
extraordinary cow with over 20 daughter descendants that
have worked at Hoover Angus. Six of these females have
earned Pathfinder status. They are an admiral cow family!
