SPRING BRED HEIFERS
AI to Basin Excitement on 5-14-12. Pasture exposed to Connealy Direct Deposit
from 5-29-12 to 8-8-12. Ultrasound safe to Excitement, due approximately February
20, 2013.
Huge ribeye genetics here! K215 was the 2
nd
biggest ribeye scan heifer of her crop!
This is no surprise as dam A345 is the 2
nd
high ribeye ratio cow in the herd (for 4
years in a row, she held the title of #1 ribeye ratio cow in the herd)! K215’s Ribeye
EPD spans way above the top 1% of the breed.
Considering K215’s exemplary
Ribeye and Docility EPDs, she is one of the top 50 non-parent females of the
breed for these two combined traits!
Her ribeye scan of 14.3” is 4.63” above breed
average for yearling heifers! K215 has the biggest Ribeye EPD among the 200+
head selling today!
Joy would say K215 has another trait in the top 1% of the breed. . . eyelashes! Joy
made special note in the calving book that when K215 was born, she would win the
contest for longest eyelashes. On a more serious note, K215 has plenty of middle
and depth, is big hipped, with good muscle shape and butt.
A maternal sister to K215 was a photo feature in last year’s auction selling to Lyle
Olson for $5000. Other daughters have been selected by Mike Carlson and Mike
Bredemeier.
Pathfinder dam A345 is a beautiful uddered cow with a 358 day calving interval, still
raising a calf at 10 years of age. One daughter and one granddaughter have earned
Pathfinder status.
A345 is the grandam of lead-off heifer lot 210. Quite possibly the thickest female
ever bred at Hoover Angus, this heifer calf uniquely combines muscle with femininity.
A345 and K215 are the #1 and #2 $YG (Yield Grade Value) Hoover-owned females,
respectively. Although $YG is not an index we print in this catalog, $YG equates to
high red meat yield – lots of red meat with little external fat cover – something the
Angus breed has been accused of not doing well enough.
K215 has the 6
th
highest
$YG among 67,000+ non-parent Angus females in the breed!
A345 ranks among the top 18 cows of the entire Angus breed (over 266,000 cows)
for $YG value! Of these 18 cows, only 4 have scanned more progeny than A345 to
help validate the data.

AI to Connealy Counselor on 5-31-12. Pasture exposed to Hoover Emperor from
6-14-12 to 8-8-12. Ultrasound safe to Emperor, due approximately April 8, 2013.
K242 is a heifer with extra length, and if she produces like what her mother has,
K242 will be one of the best bargains sale day! She’s a soggy made tank.
Dam B55 raised the 5
th
top weaning weight bull of the 2006 crop that fractured a
leg prior to the sale and had to be sent to town. Mike Carlson, Rod Hart, and Paul
Nelson have selected B55’s daughters that have come to auction. Joy has made
notes in previous calving books that B55 is a great mom.
B55 is a full sister to the dam of lot 155. Read more about this cow family in her
footnote.
K242 is due to calve outside the blizzard range (hopefully) and still have a calf by
the latest CC&7 son to make the big leagues. Emperor calves should have excellent
growth, a tick more frame, and lots of thickness. Emperor is a big scrotal bull that
should promote high fertility in his progeny.
7 Pathfinders are found in this pedigree!

AI to Hoover Emperor on 5-15-12. Pasture exposed to Hoover Emperor from 5-25-12
to 8-8-12. Ultrasound safe to Emperor, due approximately February 21, 2013.
K157 is a moderate framed, feminine, deep ribbed heifer with a nice profile. If she
can do anything like the Hoover females in her pedigree (both on the top and bottom
sides), she will be a whale of a cow!
Pathfinder dam F284 and her daughter both had calves by Hoover Headliner this
year, selling as lots 59, and feature bull calf lot 58. Look them up, they are good!
F284’s first daughter to come to auction sold to a young man in Minnesota named
Troy King. He does a good job of keeping me posted on this young cow. He is
pleased with how she has done, and has sent pictures of her calf.
F284 keeps a perfect 356 day calving interval to go along with her low birth weight
ratios and high weaning ratios.
This pedigree is packed with Pathfinders – 9 to be exact in this three generation
pedigree! It is very rare to find three generations of Pathfinder dams in a row, but
trace the Margie family back two more generations, and you will find two more
Pathfinder dams right behind the B48 cow! I believe there are only two cow families
in the history of our herd that have accomplished this feat! In any given year, about
½ of 1% of all Angus cows in America earn the elite Pathfinder designation.
Look up the pedigree of B48, and you will find 11 Pathfinders in her pedigree,
including her sire H&K Neutron 377 X3, one of the first Hoover-bred bulls to earn
Pathfinder status.
K157 has one of the top CED EPDs of the females selling today!
