SPRING BRED HEIFERS
★
★
AI to Basin Excitement on 5-19-12. Pasture exposed to Hoover Excitement K175
from 6-7-12 to 8-8-12. Ultrasound safe to Basin Excitement, due approximately
February 25, 2013.
★
★
K204 is a moderate framed, long bodied, square made, good quartered female bred
first service to the bull that sired the top selling sire group of yearling bulls in our
2012 auction – Excitement.
★
★
Don’t let K204’s EPDs fool you into thinking she won’t be as good as some of the
other higher EPD females in this auction – I think it will be the opposite. Her 14
year-old dam has low EPDs simply because she is an old cow, but her flawless
production in the boxes above speaks volumes.
★
★
Dam 458 has earned Pathfinder status and maintains a 364 day calving interval,
even including stealing a flush in 2010. She is an easy fleshing cow with an
immaculate udder that is still working in the herd and will have her 14
th
natural calf
shortly after our 2013 sale!
★
★
458’s 2012 calf by Hoover Headliner is a beautiful heifer calf that weaned at 681 lbs.
and will be retained in the herd.
★
★
458 has weaned four “top 10” weaning weight calves of their respective crops in
different years. Her top honor was a daughter that weaned at 781 lbs. to be the 2
nd
top weaning heifer of her crop, and later went on to earn Pathfinder status.
★
★
458’s progeny are noted for being very gentle. 458’s top feature son sold to Brad Z
Ranch for $7000.
★
★
Take K204 home and watch her closely after the sale, as she and her dam are low
birth weight cows, and Excitement calves can often come up to 10-12 days early
out of heifers.
★
★
K204 has the 2
nd
lowest BW EPD of the 200+ animals selling today!

K37 is a moderate framed Reward heifer that will make just the right size of cow. She
is long bodied and big topped. Thanks to auctioneer Dustin Carter for helping me out
with part of this year’s phenotype notes on sale cattle!
★
★
Dam G131 is a pretty CC&7 cow with a 355 day calving interval. G131’s 2012
daughter is one of the best calves of the crop – a 708 pound Excitement heifer calf
at weaning that shows her mother’s style.
★
★
Grandam T76 is no longer in the herd, but earned elite Pathfinder honors with a 360
day calving interval on 9 progeny. G131 was her last daughter.
★
★
Great grandam F103 was a cow Landi nicknamed “Flo” that produced until 14 years
of age with an average 104 wean ratio on her progeny.

K287 is a big spread heifer that started with a low birth weight and grew quickly to
achieve high weaning and yearling weights. The Excitement X CC&7 combination
has worked really well, and K287 is no exception. She is wide based, big ribbed,
soggy made and long.
★
★
Dam H82 was a first calf heifer with K287.
★
★
Grandam A98 maintains a 364 day calving interval. She was a high performing
female that weaned at 751 lbs., WR 121, YW 1178 lbs., YR 119. Her 14.2” ribeye
earned a ratio of 115! A full sister to A98 has earned Pathfinder honors.
★
★
Please take time to read about K287’s tremendous great grandam in the footnote
of lot 163.
★
★
K287 has the 2
nd
highest YW EPD of all the females selling today! She also ties with
the 2
nd
high WW EPD in the spring bred heifer division.

AI to Connealy Counselor on 5-28-12. Pasture exposed to Hoover Excitement K175
from 6-11-12 to 8-8-12. Ultrasound safe to K175, due approximately May 9, 2013.
★
★
K162 is really deep bodied and has good muscle shape and quarter.
★
★
K162 is due to calve later in the spring, but her calf by K175 should be a good one.
Clean-up bulls get a bad wrap for being second class, but K175 has the credentials
to stack up to the AI sires. With data backed by a 50K DNA profile, K175 has BW and
CED EPDs in the top 15% of the breed, and WW and YW EPDs in the top 1-2% of
the breed! His pedigree says he will definitely improve udders.
★
★
DamA361 has a calving interval of 360 days, and has maintained a very tight window
of calving each year. Roger Cerven, Melvin & Annette Warren, Mike Bredemeier, GS
Ridge Top Ranch and Highland Farms, all repeat customers, have selected A361’s
progeny to come to auction.
★
★
K162’s sire, Hoover Home Run, has done some very impressive things for his
owners, and Angus breeders across the country. One of the Home Run owners (that
also owns part of Hoover Dam) recently commented to me he thinks the Home Run
cattle are better than the Hoover Dams, despite Hoover Dam having more popularity.
Home Run serves as a high docility, big ribeye, high $Beef bull with way more eye
appeal than found in most high $Beef cattle.
