SPRING BRED HEIFERS
AI to Hoover Dam on 5-20-12. Pasture exposed to Hoover Emperor from 6-11-12 to
8-8-12. Ultrasound safe to Emperor, due approximately April 26, 2013.
As you can tell by her photo, K211 is a pretty female, and due to calve a little later than
some. The “clean-up” bull was one of Genex’s up-and-coming young sires whose first
progeny have now arrived. We were pleased to be able to buy back pasture rights
on Emperor, as we feel he has a card of excellent attributes to improve beef cattle
genetics. At the top of the list come good dispositions, udder improvement, calving
ease, high growth, a bit more frame, and favorable carcass qualities.
K211’s dam was a first calf heifer, now recording a 351 day calving interval. H309 is
a thick, super deep bodied cow with a really nice profile.
A full sister to dam H309 sold for $3400 to Doug Maass of Texas.
Great grandam B155 is still going strong and records 8-101 WR with a 362 day
calving interval. B155 scanned a huge 14.7” ribeye as a yearling heifer (breed
average is currently 9.67”) and now has some of the herd’s highest ribeye ratios
on her progeny.
Phenotypically, K211 is one my favorite heifers in the sale. She is big hipped, long,
soggy, stout, and very complete. Her gentle disposition adds to her value.

AI to Hoover Dam on 5-18-12. Pasture exposed to Hoover Excitement K175 from
6-1-12 to 8-8-12. Ultrasound safe to K175, due approximately March 17, 2013.
K173 is a big framed, long, big bodied, clean fronted heifer. She’s a correct made
beef cow with added thickness. The calving book tells the story of when she was
born – her dam calved so fast we didn’t even get her in a calving pen before she
dropped a calf in the lot!
As I was writing this footnote, I realized that heifer K173 was bred to bull K175 that
we raised. Upon further evaluation, I found both K173 and K175 were born on the
same day, so I went to the calving book and found they were born 6 hours and 25
minutes apart. Not many calves that share the same calving barn as newborns grow
up and get mated together!
Repeat customer Loren Parkurst selected G54’s first son to come to auction, and he
was a nice profiled Friction son with lots of depth. I remember when this bull sold and
how Loren got a heck of a good buy!
Pathfinder great grandam Z93 is still going strong at 11 years of age with a 359 day
calving interval, 10-94 BWR, 10-103 WR, 9-110 IMF ratio and 9-105 ribeye ratio! Two
featured sons have come to auction, and a very good CC&7 son sells as lot 13 this
year. Z93 still has superior udder quality!
I have yet to brag on herd sire G290, and it’s time I do it. He was our pick as the top
Friction son to replace herd sire Friction 5130 when we lost him to a jaw injury. G290
weaned at 782 lbs., WR 121, YW 1342 lbs., YR 113, IMF 5.51, ratio 115, ribeye 14.0”,
ratio 104. His dam is a gorgeous Pathfinder cow with a beautiful udder – see her
picture in the herd sire directory on page 9. Now in the donor program at Hoover
Angus, C344 has a superb 349 day calving interval as well as low birth ratios and
high wean ratios on her calves. A full sister to G290 works in the herd, serves as
a donor, and also is perfect uddered. Hands down, this is one of my favorite cow
families in the history of the herd! C344’s great grandam has produced 43 daughter
descendants that have worked at Hoover Angus.

AI to Hoover Emperor on 5-20-12. Pasture exposed to Hoover Emperor from 5-25-12
to 8-8-12. Ultrasound safe to Emperor, due approximately February 26, 2013.
K241 is a super deep bodied, easy fleshing female that has the look of a cow
already. She is big topped and has good shape.
Dam E313 is a nice Gridiron cow with a 359 day calving interval.
Grandam T51 was lost at a young age to an injury, but recorded 7-104 WR.
Great grandam M254 was one of the greatest herd bull makers of all-time at Hoover
Angus. She ended her career with 12-118 WR and a 358 day calving interval. She
brought 4 feature sons to auction, and 5 that weaned at over 800 pounds!
Look at the Pathfinders packed in this pedigree!
