SPRING BRED HEIFERS
AI to Hoover Emperor on 5-17-12. Pasture exposed to Hoover Emperor from 5-25-12
to 8-8-12. Ultrasound safe to Emperor, due approximately February 23, 2013.
K6 is a deep, broody female with added bone and muscle shape from Triple Stack.
She was one of our favorite calves as a youngster.
Dam is a deep, soggy cow with a good disposition. Her first daughter was the 3
rd
high
yearling weight heifer of her crop and works in the herd.
When K6 was born, calving book notes say that from when the calf’s nose was first
in sight, it took 4 minutes for her to be born. No calving difficulty here!
E506’s first son was a rugged, incredibly thick bull that sold to repeat customer
Butch Miller.
Great grandam V127 has been a staple in our herd – every year she has an
excellent calf and nothing less! Read about her and 4
th
generation dam M127 in lot
121’s footnote.

AI to Connealy Counselor on 5-15-12. Pasture exposed to Hoover Emperor from
5-29-12 to 8-8-12. Ultrasound safe to Emperor, due approximately April 16, 2013.
K285 is moderate framed, deep bodied, good quartered, and easy fleshing. As a
calf, we could tell that K285 would be one of our favorites!
Dam F29 is an easy fleshing, beautiful cow with a superb udder. Her greatest
contribution to our herd has been her daughters. One of these daughters is pictured
above as a first calf heifer, the other daughter raised Hoover Excitement K175, the
service sire to many of the heifers selling today. K175’s dam was the 3
rd
high yearling
weight female of her calf crop.
Pathfinder grandam V127 is known as “Porky” because she is so easy fleshing she
would be labeled “obese” if she were human. Porky has produced two Pathfinder
daughters, one of which is the dam of Hoover herd sire H&K Friction G290 and
serves as a donor cow – see her picture on page 9 of our herd sire directory. At
13 years of age, Porky has a 362 day calving interval and raised a 769 pound bull
calf – he sells as lot 69.
Great grandam M127 was Landi’s first show heifer, and known as “Blimp” because
she was a big cow with loads of volume and capacity that could smell food a mile
away. Blimp produced 3 photo feature sons and recorded 10-105 WR.
8 Pathfinders are found in this pedigree.

Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey and Landi McFarland of
rural Ellston visit with Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney about issues
affecting farmers and ranchers. Landi was chosen by the Romney
campaign staff as the face to represent Iowa agriculture to Governor
Romney on his visit to aVan Meter, Iowa farm on October 9, 2012. Others
speaking with Governor Romney during his visit were members of the
Iowa Agriculture Coalition to Elect Romney, including U.S. Senator
Charles Grassley; President of Iowa Farm Bureau, Craig Hill; and the
Koch Family that hosted the October 9th Presidential Rally.
Landi also spoke with Senator Grassley, encouraging him to keep up
his efforts to reform estate tax. Two years ago, Senator Grassley read
a letter Landi sent to him about how estate tax would affect her family’s
157 year-old family farming operation.
Landi finds it crucial to visit with elected and appointed individuals
(regardless of party) in government to help them understand farming
and ranching, and how laws and regulations they make affect our daily
lives and businesses. One example being a proposed rule change from
the Department of Labor that would have placed strict prohibitions on
the work youth under age 16 could do on farms. Landi is passionate
about sharing the message of modern day agriculture, and how farmers
care about the land, the livestock, and the legacy they leave for the next
generation. Championing agriculture and raising quality Angus cattle are
Landi’s top priorities.
Bill Northey, Landi, Mitt Romney
Landi presents Mitt with the story of her life at Hoover Angus - it
is the story of an Iowa farm girl in love with agriculture and Angus
cattle. It is a story told with photos clearly depicting a special love
and passion for agriculture that needs shared.
