L88 is the 13
th
top weaning weight heifer of the 2012 Hoover crop! She is a curious
gal that always wants to check out what you are up to. She gets a little more lift in
frame size from her sire Carbon Copy, and has superb length and extension. She
should make a very nice uddered female that will be profitable for years to come.
★
★
Sire Carbon Copy was the standout of his crop for length, muscle, and frame. He
had tremendous thickness for a bull of his frame size. Equally impressive was his
gentle disposition, hence the name “Carbon Copy” as he was so similar to CC&7 in
so many ways. Carbon Copy was the #1 weaning weight bull calf of his crop at 842
lbs., WR 124. He has been Z99’s top yearling weight calf to date at 1404 lbs., YR 111.
★
★
A maternal brother to L88 scanned a 16.7” ribeye and sold to Wayne Kemery in our
2011 auction.
★
★
Dam D259 is a deep ribbed, easy-fleshing, easy-going cow with a 358 day calving
interval. William Hurd selected her very nice daughter that sold in our 2011 sale.

L6 is a deep bodied, thick, big topped, big hipped heifer with good foot and bone.
★
★
Dam Z16 can be counted on to have one of the first calves of the season and one of
the best calves of the season, every year. And L6 is no exception!
★
★
Possibly Z16’s highest accomplishment was weaning an 805 pound heifer calf to be
the #1 weaning weight heifer calf of the 2005 crop. Another daughter was the 8
th
top
weaning weight heifer in 2010.
★
★
Z16 is a highly fertile cow with a 357 day calving interval. She is a superior uddered
cow, very typical of the Fame daughters.
★
★
Full brothers (twins) to L6 sold last year to David Anderson and Homer Tanner.
★
★
L6 is a rare find from this Blackcap Empress Ellston cow family that has grossed
nearly a quarter million dollars in registered progeny sales in recent years. They are
easily regarded as one of the top cow families in the history of our herd. 6 donors and
9 Pathfinder cows have stemmed from 5
th
generation dam C57!

vocacy in Action!
I never have an airplane ride without striking up a conversation with
the person sitting next to me. As we talk about each of our occupations,
I allow the conversation to turn to how I raise beef. We discuss topics
such as antibiotics, hormones, the family farming legacy, feedlots, animal
husbandry, health benefits of beef as part of a well-balanced diet, and
the environment. After all, beef producers that have lived off the land for
generations are active environmentalists, not environmental activists!

Open heifers in this sale average a Docility EPD in the
top 5% of the breed, Milk EPD top 10%, WW and YW EPDs
top 15%, and Ribeye EPD top 15%!
Docility Pays!
One of the #1 compliments I hear about Hoover Angus genetics is the
calm temperament of our cattle. Customers want their family to be able
to work with the cattle without fear. Mean bulls no longer have a place
on American farms and ranches. It has also been well documented that
docile cattle return more dollars than their more aggressive counterparts.
Docile cattle have higher gains and lower treatment costs than more
restless cattle, plus they are easier on equipment and people.
Docility EPD is similar to other EPDs in the fact it analyzes data
from the individual’s 4-generation pedigree. Angus breeders submit
yearling temperament scores on a scale of 1-6 (1 being docile and 6
being very aggressive), which provides the data for trait analysis.
Docility EPD is reported as a percentage, where a higher value is
considered more favorable. In the following example, if Bull A and Bull B
were mated to comparable females, it is predicted that 18 more calves
out of 100 sired by Bull A would have a “Docile” temperament score
compared with calves sired by Bull B.
Bull A Docility EPD +25%
Bull B Docility EPD +7%
