Years of listening to Dad’s wisdom…
If an environment is manipulated in order to achieve success, then nothing will Fail. A mirrored
management practice is the only option to repeat the Success. Putting my personal Breeder biases aside,
in a low-cost management it’s visible to see which cattle mirror our practice and thrive but also, at a
cost, it’s visible to see who Fails. No doubt, manipulating the environment would achieve success, but
at what cost? At what point does increasing your management, being high maintenance, and requiring
higher inputs become sustainable? Sure, a fat pocket book makes anything achievable, but I thought Beef
Producers were in the business to put money in the bank, not take it out.
Be conscious of what management you practice, what management will be profitable and truly who’s
management practice you want to keep you in business. I’ll be a 3rd generation breeder here at Blackrose
Angus and plan to continue producing cattle that can perform, that will be problem free and most
importantly be profitable for our customers. Cattle have been bred & rigorously tested here under a low-
cost management for 82 years to ensure they are sustainable and that if they don’t fail for us, they won’t
fail for you. As breeders, we’re not here to multiply cattle, we’re here to improve the genetic potential
and profitability for our customers, while consciously enhancing our own.
If you’re not in business, we’re not in business.
Reid
