GENETRUST is currently entering its 6th sale
season as a marketing alliance dedicated to Brangus
and Ultrablack cattle. We remain focused on the
production of genetics that will benefit the survivability
and sustainability of the beef industry. There are eight
founding ranches each with similar but unique breeding
philosophies who are each adhering to the principles
of meticulous performance, overall health, and genetic
superiority. We are united as one team to provide both
stayability while still maintaining individual autonomy.
At GENETRUST we take a resolute approach
to breeding cattle. Our customer base is made up of
stockmen whose survivability depends on five major traits:
birth weight, fertility/maternal, weaning weight, structural
soundness and an easy going disposition. We encourage
that all birth weights be taken with a scale, the only true/
consistent measure of weight. Calving ease, udder scores,
disposition, and condition scores are recorded for future
evaluation. Our females are maintained in a no frills forage
based environment where they are continually evaluated
for their ability to rebreed, stay functionally sound and
raise a marketable calf every year with the longevity that
this breed is noted for. By the numbers has never been
our mantra. We encourage evaluation of all EPD’s and
performance numbers, but they still have to pass our
strict physical evaluation for structural correctness.
Craig and I were fortunate to work under and
be mentored by Glenn Brinkman. He schooled us early
on if you are not going to be proud to see that animal in
someone else’s pasture carrying your brand, then don’t
brand it. That philosophy still helps drive our success at
GENETRUST because quite simply, we cull harder. Glenn
believed you could make more genetic progress through
culling than you could with selection. We adhere to that
theory and to the theory that progeny from registered
parents do not deserve a registration number but earn the
right to carry it and carry the brand “GT”.
