MR CONSISTENCY
Having been involved in the Brangus breed since 1980;
plus, having worked extensively with the Angus breed, several of
the European breeds of cattle and being raised on one of the largest
commercial operations in that era one attribute that I have observed
of successful cattlemen is the majority of those that make it work are
producing uniform, consistent calf crops. They do not talk about the
one that won the purple ribbon or the one high seller but concentrate
on a pen full of good ones with as small a cull rate as possible. This
thus helps to drive the average price per unit to a higher level.
CRC Landau 263X2 is a sire who can accomplish that for you.
In my observations around the country and evaluating sire groups
few, if any, can compare to the consistency and uniformity of quality
that you see from this sire. The one thing he does best is reduce the
size of your cull pen. You capitalize again on his consistency with
your replacement females with fewer traits that need fixed and an
easier job of identifying the correct bull power to use on them. The
one thing I admire most about the Brangus cattle in 2014 as opposed
to the Brangus population of 1980 is we can present a more desirable
and uniform product. Landau walking in your pasture will be a
definite advantage to the program that succeeds in owning this great
sire by helping to benefit your program’s success in presenting a more
uniform product to your customer.
Landau identified himself as a definite herd sire candidate
as he dominated his contemporary groups by posting a WWR of
112, a YWR of 117, a REAR of 115, and an IMFR of 108 with a
recorded scrotal measurement of 42 cm. His progeny are noted for
their strength and expression of top line and rear quarter with a
desirable base width. Landau is a moderate BW sire who has been
used successfully on virgin heifers especially, in the south, and ranks
in the top 15% of the breed for both YW and REA. 263L, his dam
is a summit cow and is a highly regarded donor female in the CRC
program. That, plus outstanding progeny ratios of ABWR 27@ 99,
AWWR 21@106, and AYWR 14 @105, statistically identify her as the
type of dam that every herd sire should be produced from. Another
positive that we should not overlook and is sometimes taken too
lightly is that Landau is an excellent semen producer and handles
himself in the pasture breeding cows very well and maintains excellent
condition.
Opportunities of this nature do not come along everyday and
he has the potential for his popularity to increase as his first daughters
come into production and breeders realize their significance. The value
of popular well known sires is hard to appraise. We have several times
discussed the value of progeny from these well known herd sires being
worth $800 to a $1000 over lesser known sires. With Landau walking
in your pasture plus his AI use it amounts to, if used fall and spring,
a sizeable increase in revenue that this sire can generate for you. Over
the last 2.5 years he has generated $43,000 in revenue through semen
sales.
Selling 2/3 interest and possession and 200 straws of
semen. Present owners Chimney Rock Cattle Co., Suhn Cattle Co.,
Vorel Farms, and Cold Creek Ranch will retain 1/3 semen interest.
Landau has been a prolific semen producer and if the new owner
desires more semen the present owners will sell an additional 300
straws of semen at cost of production to add to
sales account or for in herd use. GENETRUST
would like to continue to market semen for the
new and present owners.
