We are offering you the pick of one – yes, Kyle Gilchrist, only one – of
these Lot 3 ET heifers. The EEA 115 dam has been a solid-producing cow
here since 2003 and was just sold because she was open this fall at 14
years of age. We decided since we couldn’t buy more good “ole mama”
cows from Ed Artz that we needed to flush this girl to see what we would
get. I know it is crazy – there are a bunch of other cows in the world, but
these cows from Ed worked time after time. They were sound, good-
footed, good-uddered cows with awesome dispositions that don’t need
to be tucked in at night to survive a long cold SD winter! The 421 dam is
a daughter of 115 and needs to be flushed a little more. She was flushed
convention-ally after calving and bred right back at 10 years of age. As Ed
would say, she is a good “ole mama” cow. If you want to look at a picture-
perfect female at 11 years of age then check out this mama!
These Lot 3 heifers are not the show ring pretty, fluffy type but they will
definitely become one hell of a brood cow. The 421 dam is the mother to
the Highlight bull that Jordan Rhodes purchased in the first New Year’s
Eve “Blizzard” Sale. We have used semen on the Highlight bull and have
been impressed with his calves as well. I would love to tell you which of
these is my favorites but I honestly can say I don’t know which one I like
best. The Lot 3E heifer got a touch of foot rot before video day and as a
result we didn’t video her. We offer them all to you but I would say she is a
touch behind all the other heifers. I am not sure if her recip didn’t milk as
well but she has always lagged a little behind the rest. As always, we tell
you like it is and don’t hide facts from you. We have no problem keeping
this heifer and using her ourselves as we know what her maternal line has
done for us.
