At this time we would like to thank all of you for coming to our sale today
and thanks to all that have been buying our bulls over the past years. This last
year has been a great one for us at O-K Cattle! We have had good moisture, a
modest winter, and high cattle prices.
The main ranch is located in the Sand Hills southwest of Denbigh, North
Dakota. We run about 300 head of Red Angus mother cows under whatever
range conditions Mother Nature sees fit to throw at us. The forage in these hills
is of marginal quality sand grass and low ground sour grass. Temperatures can freely swing from well above to
below freezing on a regular basis depending on the day and the season. Animals have to work hard to meet their
nutritional needs and it is most difficult to attain fabulous weaning weights. The lack of lush forage however is a
plus for identifying livestock with superior genetics for a tough environment. Cows here are expected to run out
in the hills and calve on their own. We want cows that work for us rather than us working for the cows. The dams
that produced the bull calves on sale today grazed the prairie until late January. These cows have no knowledge of
the word “pampered”.
I would like to thank each and every one of you that have taken an interest in our cattle and wish the very best
to those of you who have purchased our bulls. Without the support of you good folks we would not be here today.
The very best thing about this industry is all the good people you meet in the cattle business.

A Brief History of O-K Cattle Company
Just a little bit of history on our ranch. I have raised
livestock all my life starting with my dad. Then in
1972 I bought what is now our main ranch from Mike
and Crystal Rosencrans. We rented the Dan Kelly
ranch at the same time until the early nineties when
we purchased it. We became the O-K Cattle Company
when we took over his O-K brand. For many years we
were a co-operator with Leachman Cattle Company
of Billings, Montana. In 1991 we purchased King
Rob who became one of our leading foundation sires.
During those years with the Leachmans our bulls sold
to customers in various countries in South America, all
across the United States and into Canada. Now, in our
11th Annual Production Sale in Rugby, we most enjoy
selling our cattle closer to home because we really
enjoy hearing from customers about how satisfied they
are with their purchases.
