GENETRUST HEIFER BREEDING OPTION
Performance Genetics. Trusted Cattlemen.
Within the GENETRUST organization we are
continually looking for new avenues to provide additional
services to our customer base. With the large number
of open heifers that we have in this year’s sale and the
potential for that trend to continue in future sales we
thought it would be helpful to bring back a program that
was utilized successfully at Camp Cooley. The H.B.O.
(Heifer Breeding Option) proved to be a valuable asset to
their customers who were investing in open heifers and
were looking for an opportunity to get them bred AI to
proven calving ease bulls and thus add value to their first
calf. GENETRUST hopes that this will also be of value to
our customers and provide them with a service that can
positively impact their programs future.
In an effort to enhance opportunities for our customers,
Genetrust will offer a heifer breeding option “H.B.O.”. It is
being provided and is designed to add real value to your open
heifer purchases and encourage AI pregnancies in these heifers.
• The H.B.O. is available as an option, at buyers choice
on any virgin, registered heifer {13 to 17 months of
age} sold through a Genetrust sale.
• Heifers will be at Schmidt Farms to be managed and
AI bred to a Genetrust herd sire of the buyers
choice. Vern and/or Craig would be happy to make
breeding recommendations to the new owner, but the
final decision will be left to the buyer.
• Heifers will be managed similarly to the virgin heifers
at Schmidt Farms of the same age.
• Genetrust pays for pasture, feed, mineral, normal
vaccines, synchronization meds and parasite control as
required. Semen costs will also be paid for if the buyer
uses a Genetrust bull. A quality clean-up bull will
be provided after AI completed at no additional cost.
• The cost of this program is an additional $500 over the
cost of the heifer. Settlement of this fee, along with
the full purchase price of the heifer, must be made on
day of the sale. Heifers will be moved to the breeding
location at no cost to the buyer.
• When heifers are palpated safe in calf, they will be
considered a breeder with no further guarantees from
Genetrust partners or it’s cooperators. If the heifer
does not palpate pregnant the purchaser will be given a
credit for the purchase price only and does not include
the $500 H.B.O. cost, or the salvage value of the heifer.
• It is the buyers responsibility to pick up the heifers
within 2 weeks of notification of palpation results.
• Genetrust partners and cooperators are not
responsible for death or any incurred vet expenses on
any heifer in this program. We strongly advise the
purchaser to purchase mortality insurance on heifers.
Customers who are considering the HBO are
encouraged to discuss the details with a Genetrust member
or sale representative prior to the sale.
