Disposition Score- Each animal has been evaluated numerous
times throughout the growing period and has been assigned a
numerical score for disposition.
1 = Docile
4 = Flighty
2 = Restless
5 = Aggressive
3 = Nervous
6 = Very Aggressive
Docility EPD - Expressed as a difference in yearling cattle tem-
perament, with a higher value indicating more favorable docility.
Dam Udder Score – The dam has been evaluated for udder
quality the day of calving and has been assigned a two part
score for teat size and udder suspension. Teat size is listed
first, udder suspension second.

$ Value Indexes
$ Values are multi-trait selection indexes expressed in dollars
per head, to assist commercial beef producers. Just as with
EPD’s, variation in $ Values between animals indicates aver-
age expected differences in relative value of progeny if random
mating is assumed and the calves are exposed to the same
environment.
$ W: Weaned Calf Value expressed in dollars per head, is the
expected average difference in future progeny performance
for preweaning merit. $W includes both revenue and cost ad-
justments associated with differences in birth weight, weaning
direct growth, maternal milk, and mature cow size. A larger
number is favorable for selecting more cost effective females
in most environments.
$ F: Feedlot Value expressed in dollars per head, is the ex-
pected average difference in future progeny performance for
post weaning performance compared to progeny of other sires.
$ G: Grid Value expressed in dollars per head, is the expected
average difference in future progeny performance for carcass
grid merit compared to progeny of other sires.
$ B: Beef Value expressed in dollars per head, is the expected
average difference in future progeny performance for post wean-
ing and carcass value compared to progeny of other sires. The
$B value combines the contributions of $F and $G.

HD50K evaluation.

EPD – Official Expected Progeny Difference for Calving Ease
Direct, Birth Weight, Weaning Weight, Yearling Weight, Scrotal
Circumference, Milk, % Intramuscular Fat, Ribeye Area, and
Fat Thickness.
CED - Calving Ease Direct is expressed as the difference in
percentage of unassisted births, with a higher value indicating
greater calving ease in first-calf heifers.
Birth Weight – Actual birth weight taken at calving.
205 Day Weight – Weaning weight adjusted to 205 day equiva-
lent and adjusted for dam’s age.
365 Day Weight – Yearling weight adjusted to 365 day equiva-
lent.
Hip Height – Actual hip height taken at yearling and adjusted
to 365 day equivalent.
ADG – Average daily gain on feed test of 90 days.
SC – Scrotal circumference measured to the nearest 0.5 cm.
and adjusted to 365 day equivalent.
% IMF – The intramuscular fat in the ribeye muscle of the car-
cass that is used to determine quality grade in slaughter cattle.
REA – The cross-sectional area of the ribeye muscle at a
point between the 12
th
and 13
th
rib. Ribeye area is used in the
calculation of yield grade.
Rib Fat – The subcutaneous fat thickness at the 12
th
rib. Rib
fat thickness is used in the calculation of yield grade.
Rump Fat – Subcutaneous fat thickness taken at a point on the
rump between the hook and pin bones.
Every yearling animal selling has been carcass evaluated by
the use of ultrasound scanning. All measurements have been
performed by a technician certified by Centralized Ultrasound
Processing, and all data is processed and on file at theAmerican
Angus Association. The data printed is the adjusted 365 day
equivalent for each trait measured (Percent Intramuscular Fat,
Ribeye Area, Rib Fat, Rump Fat) as the animal is compared
within it’s contemporary group. A contemporary group is a
group of animals about the same age and given equal treat-
ment. These measurements and ratios are comparable only
within each contemporary group.
DDC - Developmental Duplication Carrier.
