Our Program
Janssen Red Angus is located in southern Ellsworth County. Our cowherd grazes year round and calves on grass.
Our location allows us to use wheat pasture to grow our bulls through the fall and winter. Spending the winter out
of the lot provides a lot of exercise to develop sound feet and legs.
The bulls were brought into the feedlot in late January in which they are fed a high fiber energy ration and free
choice hay. We believe by developing these bulls on a limited concentrate ration that we are maximizing their
fertility, soundness, and ability to maintain condition on grass during the breeding season.
The ultrasound information has been completed and carcass EPDs updated with our thanks to Dr. Paul Ritter,
D.V.M. of Monument Station Ultrasound Services. We would also thank Dr. William Frazee, D.V.M. of Frazee
Veterinary Consulting for completing the breeding soundness exam.
Our breeding goals are balaced EPDs, with special attention given to calving ease, performance, phenotype, and
disposition. We also emphasize maternal traits as we know that a good cowherd is the foundation of a successful
cow/calf operation.
Health Program:
* 60 days of age: 7 way Blackleg and Bovi-Shield Gold 5
* 6 months: preconditioning for weaning - 7 way Blackleg, Bovi-Shield Gold 5, Pasturella
* 6 1/2 months: weaning - Bovi-Shield Gold 5 booster, treated for external & internal parasites
* February: retreated for external & internal parasites
Commercial Bred Heifers
For more than 25 years we have been marketing Red Angus and Red Angus influenced commerical bred heifers.
Our heifers are sourced from our commercial and registered herds, three of our customers’ herds that are based
exclusively on our genetics, and a few other herds that are using our bulls. This year we have a nice set of heif-
ers going to grass that consist of Red Angus, Red SimAngus, and red baldies. We will be breeding 300 head of
heifers this summer and would like anyone interested in these females to please let us know. We don’t always
advertise them so please call if you are interested in being on the buyer list. Anytime you would like to know
more about out heifer program or would like to see the heifers, just give us a call! And just like the bulls; disposi-
tion is Guaranteed!
