Golden Acres is a family owned and run cow-calf operation. Our family includes our children Darci, Jeff, Chad, Nicki,
and their families, my wife Sue, and myself. We purchased our first registered Simmental female in 1976 and since then
have maintained a 50-60 cow herd made up of 90% purebreds and a few half-bloods and club calf mamas. We have
utilized AI since the very beginning and started ET in the late 80’s. We have marketed our cattle through the Iowa Beef
Expo, the Southwest Simmental Group sales at Dunlap, and private treaty.
Our main goal has been to produce structurally sound, functional cattle that will work for anyone. Great cow families are
our Number 1 priority.
The cows are what I refer to as “mature” cows. They would not have been retained this long if they were not the top pro-
ducers. Golden Acres cows ranked 6th among all herds in “stayability” in 2013. That could just mean we have a lot of
old cows; I take it to mean we have produced a herd of very sound cows that have stood the test of time. Our cows are on
a Scour Bos 9 program and have had their boosters for this. As I mentioned last year, this is a 2-year dispersal of our cow
herd, so the cows selling are our remaining donors, cows that were young enough to keep another year and the heifer calves
we kept to sell as breds this year. The only cattle we will have left are a couple donors that we are partners on.
The open and bred heifers represent the best genetics from our herd. Several are results of ET and many have potential to go
on to be donors for some of the best cattle people in the Midwest. All but a couple of these heifers are safe to the AI dates and
bred to proven calving ease bulls. The Angus bull used to clean up is an easy calving bull we purchased from Greg Wood.
The embryos we are selling are at Collison’s Embryo Service at Lake City. If you need these shipped, please give us 2-4 weeks
