Tested by Time
Please accept our invitation to join us for The Stockman’s Kind Bull and Female Sale at Mound Creek Ranch on March 18 and 19. As usual this is
an exciting and trying time of the year for us. Conceptually, the bulls selling this year were designed in our breeding plans several years ago so
we anxiously await your appraisal of those past visions for the continuing needs of our beef industry. We have been in the seedstock side of this
business for 29 years and have hosted more individual breeder production sales than any member currently active in the Brangus breed. When we
mention “Tested by time” this is in reference to the nearly three decades worth of trials, unlimited effort, failures, and successes. Three decades
of complete devotion to staying in this business, moving the bar higher, addressing the stockman’s needs, and keeping a viable product coming
through our sale ring so you guys will understand where your best source for quality, durable, profit making seedstock beef bulls will always be
found.
We will keep our intro notes short, sweet, and to the point. There is a difference in genetic programs and realize each of you will be faced with
choosing where you buy bulls. There is a difference. We choose to go the extra miles to separate from the competition and prove this every day by
the strict requirements we place on every animal in our seedstock program. Some outfits write about it. We actually do it.
Just the Facts
When the sale bulls went on gain test we made the decision to go to a higher silage ration. Our bulls came off test still averaging 1257 lbs. Adjusted
365 Yearling Weight for the entire 160 head and measuring 37.0 cm. for Scrotal Circumference, but more importantly averaged 15.0 in. for Adjusted
Ribeye Area; 1.24 in. for RE/100 lb.; and 5.1% for IMF%! Overall, 50% of the sale bulls have a birth weight of 79 lbs. or less, and all bulls averaged
80.7 lbs. for actual birth weight. The EPD average for Non Parent bulls in the entire Brangus data base recently reported from our IBBA is as follows:
BW: 1.1, WW: 23.7, YW: 44.5; M: 9.5; TM: 21.4; SC: 0.4; CEM: 4.1; REA: 0.32; IMF: 0.00. Taking
our entire bull offering the average EPD values
for these 160 bulls ranks in the top percentile against the IBBA average as follows: WW: 10%; YW: 10%; M: 20%; TM: 10%; SC: 30%; CEM:
30%; REA: 5%; IMF: 10%!
Separated From the Competition
We ask you to take a brief moment to read a few of the things we do that separates us from all others. Then get right into studying an impressive
set of beef bulls. We are the only Brangus program in the country that actually sends all of our bulls through a feed efficiency test to determine
genetic differences. The only one in the country! Consider the financial gain of changing feed economy by 10% in a multi-billion dollar industry.
Like heterosis, feed efficiency can be free gain if we can identify the genetic pool that will drive this financial gain. We are willing to go that extra
step to do so. Next, Our New Brangus/Ultrablack program is different than any other because we have taken the best performance, maternal, and
carcass genetics the Angus breed can offer and blend them with our best females through embryo transfer and artificial insemination. As a buyer
you can rest assured the stock bulls produced through our Ultrablack program come from the front of our cow herd, not the back end. If you are
tired of looking at bulls with bad hooves, big hocks, and substandard structure keep in mind we place the strictest of quality control on soundness
of hoof, leg and skeleton as compared to all others. You will not find a sounder, more durable set of bulls anywhere in the nation. Udder quality and
calf raising value in our female herd is job one and we are diligent in keeping bad udders out of the herd. Come early, go through the herd and see
how important udder quality is to all of us at Mound Creek. Study the cataloged information. Read the black and white facts. In an industry that sells
pounds we place the greatest of emphasis on getting as many of those pounds as we can while never sacrificing the value of calving convenience
and our Brangus maternal heritage.
