God’s Tally Book
He carries it in his pocket,
If only for a glance.
But to not know his count -
Ah, there’s hardly a chance.
Even though what he’s got is many,
Almost too much to comprehend.
They were his in the beginning
And they’ll be his in the end.
His pastures, they’re a plenty
And they are always green.
A heck of a waterin’ hole if thirsty
An everlastin’ spring.
One day he’ll have a gatherin’
And a sortin’ there’ll be.
He’ll run the stick and the ins and the bys
Will be plain for him to see.
Yep, we’ll all be sorted for the things that we have done,
Which path that we have walked -
Was it in the direction of his Son?
Well boys, if, and I mean if I get to heaven
I hope it ain’t just for a look.
I hope I get to stay cause of the
Good mark in God’s Tally Book.
