MULTI-BREED CALVING EASE
The multi-breed calving ease EPDs are here! You will now see a number for calving ease (CE) and maternal calving ease (MCE) for the SimAn-
gus animals. Please notice that the base changed for the MCE.Which just means that the average is different than before, so make sure to take
note of the new average. Here are the current EPD averages for the Purebreds and the SimAngus:
The American Simmental Association and the American Red Angus Association have become partners for the purpose of EPD calculation. In
order to make it easier for the customers, they have agreed to work on the same base, so this summer, watch for the EPDs to be on a new base.
The only thing you have to think about is to remember to look at the EPD averages to be able to compare the EPDs of each animal to the new
average. It will not change the spread between any bulls or the meaning of each EPD.The base number will just be different for each trait. It will
actually make it easier to compare animals across breeds.
