This would be a good time to write about Vaquero and his pedigree heritage. TR
Vaquero 2740Z ET was produced in the famous Thomas Ranch herd in South
Dakota. He was sired by the Denver Grand Champion Diablo, out of the also
famous Wilma. Her next calf was CML Encore who was a National Reserve
Grand Champion Bull. Vaquero’s dam is none other than TR Ms Kaycee 7787T,
the 40th National Champion Female in 2009 in Fort Worth. Her dam was also
a Denver Grand Champion Female in 2007 and Ms Kaycee’s sire is the National
Champion Fire Water, the sire of 7 National Champions.

Selling 2/3 interest and Spring possession
I always say my favorite part of the seed
stock business is being around the really
good ones. I would hate to know how
many hours I have spent in the pasture
admiring CD Copperhead 4125 P and
his mother #7006 over the years. She is
one of those cows that is breathe taking.
I remember telling Jen the first couple
days after the cows got off the trucks
from WCCC “I just hope the 7006 cow
breeds true!” Has she ever! Her first bull
calf born at CD was in our 2014 Denver
Reserve Grand Pen of 5 and was a high
seller in our first sale going to Hassebrook
Charolais in Nebraska. She is now nurs-
ing a full sister to Copperhead that looks
identical in type and kind. We have only flushed 2 cows since we
started CD and 7006 was one of them! We had big plans for this
dude to lead our Denver bulls off; unfortunately he wasn’t inter-
ested in the show life. He is a masterpiece that blends power and
substance with his impeccable skeletal design and structure. His
Canadian great grand sire dogs his growth EPD’s but his growth
ratio’s well above the average prove that he has the performance
to stand the long haul.

A cream colored son of our senior herd sire Vaquero, the sire we expect great
things from. Possessing as much pin width and muscle as any prospect in the
sale. This bull is docile and always under control in any situation. He has above
average growth at a year of age, above average REA and all with a -1.0 BW EPD
for more live calves.

His maternal grand dam #428 originated in the WCCC herd that ended up
as the foundation cow herd to start Cannon-Deutsch Charolais, but she was
purchased away from the WCCC herd earlier and today is a featured donor at
Derry Wright Charolais in Missouri. Derry always told me that he tried to buy
the dam of this bull #6015 as a bred heifer for “significant money” but was
never successful. She is a perfect uddered, easy to handle cow that has an
excellent X-Factor replacement daughter at her side this winter. This is another
Vaquero son with carcass power, a 109 REA ratio and a 116 ratio of IMF, all with
below breed average birth figures.

When we bought Vaquero he just got sampled on a few cows just to figure out
what exactly we had and where we would go with him. Of the few bulls we
have, they easily gave us the confidence to breed a large fraction of our herd to
him going forward. #4069’s grand sire Diablo is homozygous polled but does
occasionally throw scurs. Diablo was also Canadian bred and has to prove his
EPD values from 0 according to the American International Charolais Associa-
tion. With a weaning ratio of 102 and a REA ratio of 107 we are expecting their
EPD values to steadily increase. His dam #9156 put a son in the Domain herd
of Wisconsin for Richard and his Daughter Rebbecca Domain.
