BreeD:
TruBrangus™are registered Brangus that are 62.5 percent
angus and 37.5 percent Brahman. Brangus are registered Brangus with a
percentage of different than 62.5 angus and 37.5 percent Brahman. Ul-
trablacks are registered composite animals with validated and docu-
mented lineage that are between 12.5%and 87.5%Brangus breeding.
PerCenT angUS:
Traditional Brangus were 62.5 percent angus and
37.5 percent Brahman. In march 2014, the International Brangus Breed-
ers association voted to allow percentages of angus greater than 62.5
percent to be registered Brangus through breeding up with Ultrablacks.
Under previous rule, all bulls listed with more than 62.5 percent angus
were classified as Ultrablacks.
ePDS:
ePD is a tool for producing better cattle, however ePDs alone
will not produce better cattle. In fact, the use of ePDs alone for selection
can actually create negative progress in other traits, as there are a multi-
tude of important traits for which there are no ePD values.
• Bw: Birthweight
• CeD: Calving ease Direct is expressed as a difference in percentage of
unassisted births, with a higher value indicating greater calving
ease in first-calf heifers. It predicts the average difference in ease
with which a sire's calves will be born when he is bred to first-calf
heifers.
• ww: weaning weight
• Yw: Yearling weight
• milk: milk
• Tm: Total maternal (one-half weaning plus milk)
• Cem: Calving ease maternal is expressed as a difference in percentage
of unassisted births with a higher value indicating greater calving
ease in first-calf daughters. It predicts the average ease with which
a sire's daughters will calve as first-calf heifers when compared to
daughters of other sires.
• SC: Scrotal Circumference
• rea: ribeye area
• ImF: % Intramuscular Fat
HeIFer BULLS:
Bulls marked heifer bulls (upper right hand corner of
each bull lot) are suitable to use on virgin heifers.
PoLLeD/SCUrS:
Bulls that are either smooth polled or have scurs.
generaTIon:
generation of animal.
InDIVIDUaL BULL PerFormanCe:
BIrTHweIgHT is actual birth
weight of the bull. weanIngweIgHTS are adjusted to 205 days (weaning
weight) and YearLIngweIgHTS are actual weights on ultrasound dates
or adjusted to 365 day of age.
age oF Dam:
age oF Dam is the age of the bull’s mother (dam) when
she calved (with the bull lot being sold).
ULTraSoUnD BaCkFaT, ImF anD rea/CwT:
measurements listed are
actual ultrasoundmeasurements taken by Donnie robertson in march
2016 and november 2015. The measurements are not adjusted for age.
• BaCkFaT (also called fat thickness or backfat) is an external fat
measurement taken between the 12th and 13th ribs and is measured
in inches.
• ImF Intramuscular fat (ImF) is measured as a percent of fat. Percent
ImF is an indicator trait for marbling.
• (rea/CwT) ribeye area per hundred weight is calculated in square
inches of ribeye area per 100 pounds of weight (cwt) at the time of
ultrasound.
In-HerD InDeXeS:
. Town Creek Farmproduces an in-herd analysis of
the Town Creek Farmbull offering on adjusted phenotypic data collection
points. These numbers represent a validation of the individual animal
rankings of the Town Creek Farmbull offering. ranking is from0 (lowest)
to 1.0 (highest).
• Ce: Calving ease. average Calving ease Index of bulls cataloged is .52.
(higher index number indicates greater calving ease.)
• g: growth. average growth Index of bulls cataloged is .50.
• F: Fertility. average maternal Index of bulls cataloged is .49.
• CI: Carcass. average Carcass Index of bulls cataloged is .52.
SUmmIT SIreS anD DamS (shown in bold, red font in pedigrees):
Dams identified as Summit Dams must initially calve at 30months of
age or younger. maintain a calving interval of 380 days or less. wean at
least 3 calves with an average weaning weight ratio on all weaned calves
of 105 or higher.
Sires identified as Summit Sires have sired five (5) or more Summit
Cows The Summit designation is not easy to obtain and is meant to rec-
ognize the most productive animals in the breed.
