Gibbs Farms has collected complete phenotype data for decades,
including carcass ultrasound scan on all bulls and heifers,
carcass data on our steers, and testing our herd sires through
the American Simmental Association Carcass Merit Program.
With modern genomic technology, we have now gone one
step further by DNA testing all sale bulls so that we can provide

Do Not Have GE-EPD’s in the sale catalog due to a
failed sample. They are currently running & will be
provided before sale time.
STOP TRYING TO USE THEWEIGHTS & RATIOS
When EPD’s and Index Values are available that have been
calculated from extensive data and genomics, then use them
and stop trying to compare actual weights and measurements,
adjusted weights and measurements, and even ratios. There is
no way you can accurately compare weights or ratios from one
contemporary group to the other, but the genetic evaluation can
and it has, so use the data that does not confuse you, please take
our advice and make it simple!
ALL EPD’s ARE NOT CREATED EQUAL
Don’t let that statement confuse you. EPD’s and Index Values
are always the best tool to use in any given situation, but they
certainly are not always the same accuracy. When very little or
no phenotype data or genomic data has been used to derive the
EPD, accuracy will be very low. When all data, both phenotype
and genomic has been used in the calculation of the EPD, then
generations of complete data and accuracy gets even higher, so
the question is . . .
