SCHURRTOP ANGUS & CHAROLAIS RANCH
Farnam and Maywood, Nebraska
Welcome to our spring yearling bull sale where we will offer our February and March born bulls. We would
like to say thank you in advance to the many friends and customers for your support over the years. We are a
family operation and go to work everyday raising cattle just like you do. Our one main goal and passion in this
business is to have the most profitable bull customers in the industry, with the least stress and time consuming
management problems of all.
In this sale you will find high performance bulls with proven feed efficient genetics that have all the numbers
and data to back it all up and fit any program. In addition to that, you will find bulls with as much natural muscle,
body shape, body width and doability to naturally hold up, thrive and excel even in tough environments or on
poor feedstuffs, just as their daughters will do. For over 30 years we’ve been feed efficiency testing and now with
new technological advances, we can select for low Residual Feed Intake proven genetics. We have added this as an
extra, but main criteria, that you will find in very few operations. Feed and pasture costs represent 65-70% of the
cost of production in a cattle operation. It has been proven time and again we can select for lower maintenance
costs and less inputs per day/per head with no negative effects on any other traits. It is independent of frame,
mature size, and reproductive traits. In fact, I will contend that lower RFI or lower maintenance cattle just plain
“do better” and thrive when the going gets tough. Any successful business person knows that controlling costs
is a major part of profitability over the long haul and this is a proven way to do it. Most operations can improve
feed efficiency 10-15% (easily up to $200/pair and through the feedyard difference). This equates to huge dollars
per head, more cows on less acres and much bigger profits in the feedyard. It’s the kind of stuff that pays for a
ranch or a feedyard.
There are also many non EPD criteria that affect the bottom line--including fertility, doability, muscle shape,
udders, feet and legs, etc. We were also one of the pioneers in carcass testing and we’ve utilized this data for
over 40 years. It is all bred into the cowherd. There are lots of choices in this industry. We want your family and
operation to thrive and know you can buy from the first to the last bull in this offering with confidence.
As always, visitors are always welcome. The bulls are located 3 1/2 miles west of the Maywood junction. Whether
you come to buy or look for next year, we appreciate your interest in our program and we would enjoy talking to
you about the bulls or just discussing the beef business. Our success depends upon your success, and we expect
the cattle to perform. The usual Schurrtop guarantee goes with them and we stand behind them 100%.
