YEARLING FEMALE EXPLANATION
Again this year, we are offering a quality group of open
females. Our selection process is to sell replacement
heifers that have maternal sisters that remain in the herd.
Their sisters in production give insight into the sale heifers’
future productivity. They are in a good healthy breeding
condition. OCV and Open.
THE PATHFINDER OPPORTUNITY
Molitor Angus has one of the largest numbers of Pathfinder cows as any
herd in Kansas. Those females excel in fertility and progeny performance.
To be a Pathfinder, a female has to have the opportunity to reach that
status. At Molitor Angus, every female starts out with the opportunity. Starting
about April 10th, we start breeding our replacement heifers on a natural cycle
basis for about 24 days then give Lutalyse to those not seen in heat. About
May 20th, all heifers are put to grass with a pasture bull.
Two-year-old cows with their first calves are all put to grass in mid-April for
natural service. This group of 80 to 100 head are used to help prove our young
herd sires by getting at least 15 progeny each from those bulls.
Three-year-old and older cows that calve before about February 25th are
AI’ed on a natural cycle basis for about 30 days and then put to pasture.
At Molitor Angus, genetics do play a role in developing a Pathfinder cow but
you must give that cow the opportunity to show her potential.
