INSPECTION OF CATTLE:
Bulls will be available for inspection
on Sunday, March 20 at the sale site. The bulls may be viewed
at Black Velvet, 1 mile south of Mankato on 170 Rd., at any time
previous to the sale. The females will be available for viewing at
Black Velvet at your convenience and moved to the sale site on
Monday, March 21.
HEALTH:
Interstate health papers will be furnished on all cattle
selling. The yearling cattle have had Vista 5L5, Vision 7, and
ontogenous pinkeye on or before May 1, 2015. Preweaning shots
of Vista 5L5 and ontogenous pinkeye were given in August, 2015,
and another dose of Vista 5L5, Fusoguard footrot vaccine and
injectable Ivomec 2 weeks after weaning. The heifers were Bangs
vaccinated last fall and vaccinated with PregGuard FP 10 and
they were pelvic measured February 11, 2016 and vaccinated
with a second shot of PregGuard FP 10, and sell ready to breed.
The bulls have been PI BVD tested negative, and were semen
tested on March 1st, 2016, by Vincent Traffas, DVM, scrotal mea-
surements will be on a supplemental sheet sale day and on our
website as soon as available. The bred females were vaccinated
for vibrio/lepto, given Fusoguard footrot vaccine and wormed with
Ivomec pour-on last fall.
All the cattle selling today are tested free or have no ancestry at
risk for AM, NH, CA, D1, OH or M1. We have tested for DD all
animals that had that potential and if they are a carrier it will show
as DDC by their names, otherwise if tested and they are free of
the defect it will show as DDF. Neither OH, nor DD, are recog-
nized as Lethal Defects by the American Angus Association, so
registration is not affected and those animals are still recognized
by the Association..
EPDS AND $VALUES:
The American Angus Association is now
calculating EPDs on a weekly basis using all available carcass
harvest data, ultrasound data and the Igenity specific genomic
profile data. It is possible new data has been submitted between
the date the sale book was finalized and sale day, which will affect
the individual EPDs and $Values indexes of the animals selling. If
your purchasing decision relies highly on the most current carcass
data available, please look up animals of interest on the American
Angus Association web page,
, prior to viewing the
sale offering.
TERMS:
Cash - please settle for cattle promptly. Animals will not
be loaded until settlement is made.
INTEREST RETAINED IN BULLS:
We are retaining 1/3 semen
interest in every bull in this sale, because it generally takes sever-
al years for a sire to be “discovered,” we feel we can help our cus-
tomers find and market bulls that float to the top. You will own full
possession and 100% salvage value of the bull. We are retaining
the right to 1/3 of the semen sales revenue from the bull if some-
time in the future semen sales become a possibility. If you decide
to have semen collected for your own herd use, that semen is
100% yours. Please contact Black Velvet Cattle for an opportunity
to collect him in a joint venture, splitting semen production costs
and revenue of semen sales on a share basis.
GUARANTEE:
All bulls are guaranteed against breeding injury
for six months from the date of this sale. If a replacement bull is
available, he will be provided; or if the buyer prefers, a full credit
toward one bull will be given in the following year’s sale. The
injured bull shall be sold in the name of Black Velvet Cattle with
freeze brand notated by sale barn or packing house. Please let us
know as soon as you know you have a problem, waiting until the
following year will void the guarantee.
We do not guarantee the open sale females, although they are
pelvic measured and examined by a veterinarian to insure that
they are cycling, they have been vaccinated, fed properly, and
every avenue taken to have them in perfect condition to breed,
but sometimes Mother Nature has her own ideas, as any cattle-
man can attest to. The bred females will be vet examined and a
supplemental sheet will be provided with any new information on
sale day.
PERFORMANCE:
All cattle have current 2016 EPDs and Adj.
365 weights. This year we did our ultrasound scanning too late
to make the sale book, so all of that data will be available on a
supplemental sheet sale day or on our website as soon as it is
available. Scrotal measures will be on a supplemental sheet also
and up on our website as soon as available.
