2016 begins with some turmoil in all aspects of agriculture, from the controversial NDP Government
to the weak Canadian Dollar. While cattle prices have softened it is still nice to see them strong. We
have been put to the test for many years; from the onset of BSE years ago droughts, floods and we
fought back making the right choices and forging on. So I have no doubt that as a strong group we will
be heard and we will prevail. After all we have no choice but to, as this is “what we do”.
That is what we have done in our herd, we sought out the strongest set of herd sires possible, both
A.I and Natural breeders. We are bringing to town what we put our “all” into. We pride ourselves on
our cowherd being carefully designed through stringent cull practices, to offer good feet, udders,
composition, coupled with longevity and productive females and powerful dependable males.
Our efforts were rewarded in December when we exhibited the Reserve Champ. Pen of Purebred
Commercial Open Females at the 2015 Medicine Hat Pen Show. This feels like a reward for the many
miles endured in search for the herd changing bulls we have acquired or utilized through A.I.
As always the bull calves graze near home at the base of the Sweetgrass Hills, where travel is a must
and they needed to travel a little further for grass this year as compared to the past few due to lack of
moisture.
The females were put to the test all sent to the One Four Grazing Reserve where they came back in
great shape, and quite possibly our strongest set of females to date.
As always we have put in footnotes to explain each bulls strongest qualities but in the words of a wise
man I know “Just come look”.
