40 BRED HEIFERS – About two-thirds will be sired by SydGen sires, and 1/3 will be sired by bulls from Hinkle’s Prime Cut Angus,
Nevada, MO. Most will be Angus, with a few BWF.
All were AI bred to Connealy Cool 39L on May 26. They were exposed from June 3 to SydGen Lunesta 3694 #17822640 (+8
CED/+43.75 $W/+134.50 $B), SydGen Progress 4137 #17873899 (+15 CED/+55.77 $W/+144.57 $B), SydGen Lunesta 4726

Gen Missouri 4603 #18135780 (+16 CED/+53.55 $W/+106.37 $B). All of the heifers were ultrasound checked for pregnancy on
August 16, and many will have fetal sexing results available and sorted that way.
The Mershon family traditionally ran 150 cows and back grounded-finished another 250 calves. In 2002 they decided to grow their
cow herd and improve genetics. For three years they purchased open heifers from the best local producers, AI bred them, and
cleaned up with low BW Angus bulls. At this point, they began to retain ownership on many of the steers all the way to harvest.
They began retaining their own heifers, and breeding them AI in 2005, and progressed to timed AI breeding on the cow herd in
2010, using the Hereford sire “Revolution” on their straight Angus cows.
In the spring of 2013 they purchased the cow herd and leased the land and facilities of Sunny Acres Cattle Inc., Appleton City, MO,
an established herd with a strong influence from Hinkle’s Prime Cut Angus. Mershon Cattle LLC was awarded the 2013 Missouri
Angus Association Commercial Producer of the Year Award.
