PICK LOT FROM 2011 GLOBAL COLLECTION SALE
This lot was the selection made by Joe and Kenneth from the 2011 Global
Collection Sale when Schmidt Farms offered the pick of their female calf
crop. An ET heifer calf, out of the matriarch of that cow family at Schmidt
Farms 40M, sired by the great female sire Next Step. She outclassed her
contemporaries with individual phenotypic data of WWR of 108, YWR of 106,
and REAR of 109 and went on from there to excel as a donor female for the
Cavender program. Her first ET flush born in the spring of 2012 resulted in 5
sons sired by Suhn Chisholm 331W45 that were a dominant part of our 2013
sale offering. She has gone on to produce excellent ET flushes by X-Factor,
New Concept, Guardian, Tradition and Three D. This is not a donor female that
will overpower you with her high rankings for EPDs but certainly one that
you should consider for her completeness, moderation of frame, structural
soundness, depth and spring of rib, thickness and just being the kind that
will keep you in the cow business. As a respected breeder associated with
another breed once told me it is too bad that they do not issue an EPD for
those animals that are breed average or above in a multitude of traits and
get the job done. Whether you are a new or established breeder you owe
it to yourself to examine this lot and consider the foundation her genetic
strengths can contribute to your herd. 40W2 can subsidize the shortcomings
that need to be stabilized when mated to outlier EPD sires whether they
be Brangus, Angus, or Ultrablack. Such sires can benefit from her genetic
assets that can easily be overlooked by encompassing
strictly high ranking EPDs into your breeding decisions.
40W2 sells safe in calf for a March of ‘17 due date to
the Ultrablack sire SF Benchmark 535A74. Benchmark
is doing a great job with his first progeny and should
match up well with this donor.
