Lyons Connection 1030
Birth Date: 9-26-2011
Bull 16998647
Tattoo: 1030
This natural calf was purchased with his two-year-old dam a year ago
from Lyons Ranch, Manhattan, KS.
It appears he took the trucking a bit hard, or had trouble adjusting, and
weaned light. But he came on exceptionally well on test, and scanned
well.
Posts the second best CED of all the bulls off of two-year-olds, and has
good eye appeal.

SydGen Jaguar 1761
Birth Date: 9-16-2011
Bull 17173483
Tattoo: 1761
This bull was born a twin, so his EPDs are sire-dam average.
All he needs is a little more time to catch up.
His grandam is the cow featured as Lot 286, and his dam is one of the
highest $B females in the herd.

EPDs
We have the following abbreviations throughout this book with
regard to EPDs. Remember that an EPD is an estimate of how
future progeny will perform, relative to other Angus cattle with
EPD values. The accuracy figure, just after the EPD, indicates the
possible future change in the EPD. The higher the accuracy, the
less likely the EPD will change appreciably.
BW - Birth weight, expressed in pounds.
WW - Weaning weight, expressed in pounds adjusted to 205 days
of age.
Milk - Influence of the dam, due to her milking ability, on weaning
weight, expressed in pounds of calf weaned.
YW - Yearling weight, expressed in pounds adjusted to 365 days
of age.
CW - Carcass weight, expressed in pounds at a given end point.
MB - Marbling, expressed as a portion of a marbling score (one
point of marbling score = 1/3 quality grade).
REA - Ribeye area, expressed in square inches, at a given end
point.
FT - Fat thickness, expressed in inches, at a given end point.
SC - Scrotal circumference, expressed in centimeters, at a year of
age.
CED-Percentage of unassisted births when a sire is mated to virgin
heifers. Higher values indicate more unassisted births.
CEM-Percentage of unassisted births as first calf heifers.
Two new research EPDs are currently available only on proven
sires, and are printed on all sires with them available.
DOC-Percentage increase in number of progeny scoring 1 (most
docile).
HP-Percentage increase in number of daughters pregnant in their
first breeding season.
You have probably noticed the American Angus Association no
longer computes Ultrasound EPDs. The ultrasound and carcass
databases have been combined into one set of Carcass EPDs,
with both carcass data and ultrasound data used to compute those
EPDs. We believe this has made it much simpler to understand,
and should encourage more collection of carcass data to increase
the accuracy of high use sires.
Remember that no EPD is an absolute. It simply allows you
to compare genetic differences in sires. As an example, if you
were to use a high accuracy +30 WW EPD sire in your herd, and
the weaning weights average 550 pounds, then you could expect
a high accuracy +40 WW EPD sire to sire calves averaging 560
pounds, if used in exactly the same situation. A sire with a +6 BW
EPD should sire calves averaging 4 pounds heavier at birth than a
sire with a +2 BW EPD.
