Welcome to the Complete Dispersal of our Snow Creek Angus Ranch cow herd. As this chapter of the SCAR program
closes we are proud to present the genetics we have developed over the past fourteen years. We believe the genetics
represented throughout this sale book show the dedication and the disciplined approach we have taken in our breeding
decisions for over a decade.
The SCAR program started with our desire to raise our own beef in a forage-based system and to also incorporate a
rotational grazing system that would allow us to maximize our quail management – for those of you who know me, you
understand my passion for bird dogs and quail!
We have stressed throughout the years the need for easy fleshing, functional females that will maintain their body
condition throughout the year while raising a high-quality product. Along with producing cattle that are functional and
sound, we have also stressed the need for having docile females that are easy to handle and who will also produce calm,
easy doing cattle that will perform in our feeding operation.
I would invite you to visit
and see an article printed in the May 2009 Angus Journal regarding
the niche market we have developed in selling high-quality Angus beef. Each year we market 50,000-plus pounds of SCAR
produced beef to customers who have come to realize the value of quality in a package. What began with Michelle (daugh-
ter) serving a SCAR produced roast at a church function and people expressing an interest in buying beef that would
taste “just like that” has now grown into a larger business and has also helped us shape our Angus program and keep us
focused on producing on the very best in terms of quality. And when our business outgrew what we could produce we
started purchasing our customers’ calves to fill the void!
Our genetics are geared towards carcass and meat production! When you study the %IMF and UREA scores through-
out the sale book you can see that we have stressed the need for increasing these traits which ultimately have been a
factor in developing our beef business to our valued customers. This year alone our sales are up over 50% as compared
to last year, when we sold out of beef. We are truly excited and humbled to know that so many folks have found our end
product so satisfying.
For the past ten years the SCAR program has operated as somewhat of a closed herd with only four outside bulls
being purchased and only a few outside bulls being used in our AI program. You will find that many of our top females
selling are produced by SCAR raised bulls. As you study the %IMF and UREA scores, keep in mind that the ratios of these
individuals are compared only within the SCAR herd; their scores are extremely high and are two standard deviations
above breed average. Our last group of heifers ultrasounded had an average %IMF score of 6.4 as compared to the breed
average of 4.5 and those same heifers had an average UREA score of 12.9 as compared to the breed average of 9.6!
We are confident that you will find females selling throughout this offering as well as the herd bulls responsible for
many of these females unique in their kind with the genetics to
make a positive impact in the beef business. It is a sad day as
we bring the SCAR cow herd to an end but fulfilling to know
our genetics have proven to promote the beef business in such
a positive manner and provide our ultimate consumer with a
satisfying eating experience.
Feel free to contact Glenda or me at any time if you would
like to discuss the cattle we will be selling. We always enjoy
discussing cows and bird dogs!
Sincerely,
“Doc” and Glenda Haag
