Dear Cattlemen,
Welcome to the 2013 Skinner Ranch Seedstock’s 27th annual bull and female sale. We would like to
thank all previous buyers and bidders that had the confidence in our program to make our sales and
program a success and allowing us to move forward. A very big thank you to our friends and neighbors
who help the sale run smoothly.
This last year was certainly a challenge for many in the cattle business in a number of different ways.
Our early spring was the driest I remember and many people were looking for pasture or selling the cow
herds. That is certainly extremely stressful for a rancher after many years of hard work. Then we finally got
some rain to save most of us. There were many freak storms that severely hurt some neighbors and friends
around the country. We wish there was more we could do to help those people. In this area we did have
enough water to irrigate crops but it makes one wonder where it came from since there was only the spring
rains and nothing all summer. We did end up with good hay and fall moisture with some beautiful fall days
to get our work done.
Again it looks like a good time to be in the cattle business as cattle prices are at an all-time high. The
cattle numbers and demand are in a positive position to have another good year.
Since we have had very positive feedback, we will again be putting bred heifers and cows in our sale.
These females are all out of our registered herd. These cows have been sorted for quality many times over
and are very usable productive cows. They are being sold without registration papers. The registration
papers can be purchased for $200 each. These cows produced replacement heifers, bulls in the sale and
the steers averaged 730 pounds with every calf going on the feeder load. We are pleased to announce that
Parke Ranch will also be putting bred heifers into our sale. They are heifers that were sorted back with
replacement quality in mind. The Parke herd is also a herd of cattle that are sorted for quality traits and if a
female fails their requirements, she will be gone at any age to the saleyard for slaughter.
A new feature in the sale this year will be the placement of some two year old herd sires. These are sires
that have been used this last year in our program. They are top bulls that are sound and ready to work. We
hope this will allow some customers that are interested in turning out older bulls to utilize SRS genetics.
We have another exciting addition to the Skinner Ranch family. Tim married Hayley this last June and we
all had a fun day at their wedding and post wedding celebration. She is a fun and hardworking young lady.
We are very fortunate to have four great daughter-in-laws in our family.
We continue to watch our grandchildren grow and they continue to make our hearts melt as we watch
them change and develop. As I continue to get older and watch them, I realize what the joys of life are
about and helping them shape their lives and values is so important. They just create many smiles each day
as you are around them.
