DON’T MISS AN OPPORTUNITY
How much is a top end bull worth?
Increase in pounds per calf as a result of a
top performing bull
X
Number of cows bred per year
X
Average selling Price of calves for 4 years
=
Extra dollars you can pay for a better Bull
Example: A bull who will add 30 pounds over industry
average, bred to 25 cows for 4 years.
30 pounds x 25 cows = 750 pounds x 4 years = 3000 pounds
x $1.60 = $4800
This bull is then worth $4800
more
than a bull who keeps
your weaning weights the same.
This is only half or less of the equation because you get the
advantage of the replacement females. All good cattlemen
that watch their cows know how much better those consistent
top end cows do than herd average.
Another big bonus is their fertility and longevity because
these are worth more dollars than weaning weights.
Another plus can be a result of selecting genetics out of
programs that create labor efficiency in cows by having cows
with good dispositions and quality udders.
