RANCH HORSE INVITATIONAL
Explanation and Expectations for the Invitational
– by Jim Brinkman
For many years I have talked about and worked to design a competition for the get of accomplished & approved Pitzer Ranch-bred sires.
They will compete in a contest to show what I think is the ultimate Ranch Horse. This competition is designed based on what we expect
of a broke horse at Pitzer Ranch: sound conformation, well-broke, good enough to use on the ranch and at the brandings during the
week and then saddle up to compete at jackpots on the weekends. He can be ridden by one or several different riders (either at home
and also for this competition). By tying this invitational competition into the horse sales and making it exclusive for Pitzer-sired blood-
lines, we expect this to create even more demand for proven Pitzer Ranch sire line prospects and finished horses. We ultimately hope
to make your breeding programs healthier and with more demand trickling down to broodmares producing these horses. Numbers and
volume are one of the unfair advantages most bloodlines can never obtain. For the Two Eyed Jack family line of horses to remain in
demand over time the wider the base and the more volume we together produce, the more chance we as breeders have to continue
improving our horses almost to the point of making it a breed within the Quarter Horse breed.
It was written by a famous horse trainer that "judging makes us all imitators". It only teaches us to try to do what the last winner did. By
using only the clock, timed competition results are the only judge. This competition should allow creativity by both rider and his horse
and let the true talent show through.
With this competition using the clock mainly as a judge you should not leave feeling that you had an unfair chance or prizes taken away
by human opinion as many complain about with judged events. This is a competition for any level rider to compete and showcase their
horse's skills in any or all of the events. These are events with skills based on desirable traits I believe in and that I have tried for many
years to breed into the horses in my Pitzer Ranch program.
I have created a list of the Pitzer Ranch-blood stallions that have proven themselves in the arena. They are either sired by Pitzer Ranch
standing stallions or stallions that I have admired their traits and accomplishments enough to stand them as Pitzer Ranch outcross sires.
I encourage all the stallion owners on the list to nominate their studs. Their weanlings will be the only ones accepted to be sold in our
annual Pitzer Ranch Fall Production & Consignment Sale. Horses consigned to a Pitzer Ranch Sale that are less than 6 years old will
have notation on their catalog pedigrees as eligible for entry in the Ranch Horse Invitational. Horses 4-6 years old by Paid-Up sires
can then be entered in our yearly Ranch Horse Invitational Competition. All of this is with the belief that it will promote the versatility,
disposition, conformation and ability of the bloodlines of the Pitzer Ranch athlete and continue to make them in high demand. This
should benefit us all with a realistic competition that produces, old-time fun, ranch-based friendly competition, a higher demand for our
horses, and ultimately greater prices for the prospects and broke horses we sell.
On the next two pages check out the basic information, class descriptions, and preliminary eligible sire listings. Visit our website:
which will continue to be updated as the list of approved sires grows. As they are paid-up, their 4-6 year olds can
enter the yearly RANCH HORSE INVITATIONAL. Pease join me in celebrating and promoting the Pitzer Ranch bloodlines. This is a
continuation of the ranch philosophy that has been in place since 1945. Don’t miss your chance at owning the next HPI winner!
