Welcome to our 20th Spring Bull Sale. What an exciting time to be in the cattle business! It would
be very possible that productive life of these bulls and females will be the most profitable period that we will
experience in our lifetimes. The nations cowherd is the smallest that it has been in a half century and that
won’t change anytime soon. As soon as moisture conditions become more normal and feed prices moderate
there will be more potential for profit than any of us have ever known.
As we get older we often reflect back on experiences from our younger days. I am reminded of an
area full time famer and part time philosopher named Frank Baker who told me, when I was much younger,
that it takes quite a while to get dry but it can get wet overnight.
We are very excited about the bulls being offered. Once again we have developed them as much
as possible on standing forage. If you come expecting to see soft, fat bulls that are pushed for maximum
yearling weights, you will be disappointed. These bulls will be a little harder in appearance but will be good
footed and ready to breed cows without falling apart. In the past year we have sent bulls from Montana to
extreme south Louisiana and all parts in between. We are totally convinced that if bulls are developed prop-
erly they can adapt to their surroundings fine in most cases.
The commercial female offering continues to grow each year. We have a nice selection of open heif-
ers, bred heifers and young pairs that would please the most discriminating buyer. We will run the female
portion of the sale like last year in that there will be no females on site, they will be sold off of the video. If
you can come look before the sale that would be great, if not, we guarantee that you will be happy or you
don’t own them.
