WELCOME
Welcome to our Retirement Dispersal.
It has been a great joy to own our purebred Angus herd. It has been a privilege to freely choose from our many resources to improve this breed of cattle
in the way our conscience dictated.
Thank you for your past business and present interest in our breeding program. Some years back when we had approximately 1,000 cows, we split the
herd between Roth Angus, our daughter Heidi and son-in-law Craig Roth, and our youngest son Lance LaGrand Pankratz, LaGrand Angus Ranch, and
myself Duane “Doc” Pankratz, and my herd came to Bison, South Dakota as LaGrand Scotch Cap Ranch. When my herd came to western South Dakota,
I stressed ribeye size, tenderness, feed efficiency and low birth weights. Our herd will be among the top in the nation in these criteria as well as being in
the top 20% of EPDs.
During the 10 years we exhibited our cattle at national shows, we had numerous bulls and females win championship honors across the country, includ-
ing four bulls that won champion bull honors at the National Western Stock Show in Denver. At that time we sold many of our top females privately and
through our annual fall female and production sales. However, for the past seven years we have not sold any of our best females. This dispersion will be
the first time these distinct females will be offered up for auction, allowing you to be the judge and select them for your herd.
The animals pictured in this sale book may not necessarily be all of the best cattle selling in this offering; however, we do feel they do offer a nice visual
cross-section of the complete cow herd selling. Many of the nation’s top cow families are generously represented throughout this offering. The AI and
herd sires we used met my strict criteria and also had high tenderness genes. This dispersion also includes the service of two of the most exceptional
herd sires we have had the pleasure to own and prove. Many of the younger cows are sired by Performer 884. Leo McDonell raised this bull, and he
was tested at the famous Midland Bull Test center where he topped the feed efficiency division of the test. Mr. McDonell recently ordered another 100
straws of semen to use in his own herd. We both will tell you that year after year the calves sired by Performer 884 have outperformed the other calves.
The latest top-selling Midland graduate that we have had the privilege to own is Tombstone 050 who is now a member of the Genex bull stud lineup.
Tombstone is a son of the breed-leading performance sire Sitz Upward 307R and the famous Mytty Countess 906 cow best known as the dam of Mytty
In Focus. He served as the AI and service sire of many females and sired some of the top bull and heifer calves in this sale. This is one of the first
opportunities to purchase the get and service of this great up-and-coming Genex sire and from great working dams as well. We are selling 45 select fall
bulls; there will be many great herd sire prospects here.
It gives me great satisfaction to hear compliments from our past customers that have made investments in our cattle over the last 25 years. I am proud
and confident of the contribution our genetics will make in your herds.
We would like to thank the 40 plus herd owners who allowed us to pick the best females in their sales and dispersions, including major purchases in the
Bon View and Hoff’s Scotch Cap dispersions. We have considered it a great privilege to have purchased, enjoyed and resold these two great ranches.
As I enter retirement, it is easy to reflect on the past. Despite all of our wonderful accomplishments in life, in the end, only what is done for Christ will
count. And then it will only count if you have accepted God’s free gift of salvation, when you receive his Son as your personal savior and forgiver of all
sins.
