57th Annual Kentucky Angus Sweepstakes
Welcome to the 2103 Kentucky Angus Sweepstakes held in conjunc-
tion with the Kentucky Beef Expo. Each year for over 50 years the
Kentucky Angus Association has hosted this event to showcase the
Angus Cattle producers by its members. This year's offering is quite
impressive. I am sure that you will be able to find an animal that will
improve your own Angus herd.
I have personally been around the sweepstakes for over 42 years and
I feel that it is one of the best opportunities for someone to fellowship,
learn, and purchase Angus cattle.
Each year Angus producers from around the state work to have a
group of animals that showcase their herds. While at the expo, I chal-
lenge you to visit with the members to gain an understanding of their
breeding philosophy, so that we can learn from each other and keep
the Angus breed improving.
KentuckyAngus is proud to help provide this sweepstakes to it's mem-
bers, if you have any suggestions on how we could improve our per-
formance please visit with me or any of the board members so that
we can use your input to make changes.
Enjoy your stay at the 2013 Kentucky Beef Expo.
Best Regards!

Welcome to the 2013 Kentucky Angus Sweepstakes Show & Sale to be held on Friday
and Saturday, March 1 & 2, at the Kentucky Exposition in Louisville, Kentucky. The
Sweepstakes is annually one of the premier state sponsored expos in the beef cattle in-
dustry. Outstanding genetics from throughout the state of Kentucky will be offered for
your appraisal on the above dates. Many miles would be logged just to view this offering
that will be presented to you under one roof in one the nation’s top facilities.
The 49 female lots consigned to the sale include 10 fall calves, 6 intermediate heifer
prospects, 15 junior heifer calves, and 2 senior heifer calves that will be age eligible for
the 2013 show season. In addition to the show heifers, 12 bred females plus 4 cows with
3 calves will sell. The genetics and the quality of these females are strong enough to con-
tribute to any herd in the Angus industry. The bull consignments include 10 bulls that
represent the programs of numerous Angus operations, and most of them will qualify for
the Genetic Improvement cost share funds administered by the Kentucky Agricultural De-
velopment Board.
The junior program has always been top priority with the Kentucky Angus Association.
A total of $1,200 is designated by the Sweepstakes for premiums for heifers purchased in
the Sweepstakes by junior members and later exhibited at the Expo Junior show or the
Kentucky Preview show. Also, all juniors are eligible to register for 4 $200 purchase
awards that will be drawn for just before the sale.
Another part of the weekend which you will not want to miss is the Kentucky Angus As-
sociation Awards Banquet on Friday evening at the Hilton Garden Inn. The Sweepstakes
Champions will be formerly recognized and the Kentucky Angus Association Annual
Awards recipients will be announced. The preferred pages of the Kentucky Angus Direc-
tory will be auctioned, and the Kentucky Junior Association and the Kentucky Angus As-
sociation will hold their annual meetings.
The Sweepstakes is an integral part of the 27th Annual Kentucky Farm Bureau Beef
Expo which will feature shows and sales for 10 breeds plus one all breed female sale. Ap-
proximately 500 head will sell under one roof within a 24 hour period. A great deal of the
funds required to operate the Expo comes through the Kentucky Department of Agriculture
through the Kentucky National Program, and again this year we are pleased to welcome
Kentucky Farm Bureau as the major corporate sponsor of the Expo. When you have the
opportunity, please show your gratitude to the personnel of these two organizations. The
Expo in its current form would not be possible without their manpower and financial sup-
port.
Give me a call if I can help you in any way pertaining to the sale. I will be in Louisville
from Wednesday, February 27th thru Sunday, March 3rd . Make it an Angus weekend. I
will look forward to your presence. See you there!
