Few times in generations of cattle breeding does
the right combination of a thoughtfully planned mating
and providential intervention meet to create a one of a
kind genetic masterpiece that dominates an era.
It is often said that a sire’s real genetic worth is
not fully realized until after he has been retired from
the breeding pasture and forgotten in the semen tanks
of breeders. To this end, Csonka has surpassed even his
most ardent fans’ expectations. At seven years of age
he has made, and will continue to make, a permanent
mark on the Brangus breed and the beef cattle industry.
When Joe and Catherine Kassler, owners of The
Oaks Farm, first purchased ½ interest and possession of
Csonka in the fall of 2006 for the then record price of
$65,000, little did they know or realize what a dynamic
impact this newly purchased herd sire would have not
only on their program, but also countless other Brangus
programs not only domestically but internationally
as well. His progeny have been sought after by both
registered and commercial cattlemen alike because of
their power, explosive growth, ruggedness, stout structure
and bone with big numbers for growth, maternal, and
carcass. The IBBA data base recorded 419 progeny
records in his first year of service and what an impact
that first calf crop made. Included in those progeny
born in 2007 was the $50,000 LTD of Brinks 415T28,
the $25,000 Patton of Brinks, and the $20,000 Scipio of
Brinks. He has also produced the $30,000 CRC Guardian
9
U8U5 and other notable sires such as Hannibal and
Stonewall plus others. His daughters are quickly making
a name for themselves as dominant donor females in
programs throughout the US as well as internationally.
Oaks Miss Csonka 541T7 produced the high selling bull
in the 2012 GT @ Suhn Cattle Co. Bull Sale where 1/2
interest brought $27,000 from Tony Westbrooks. Csonka
progeny continue to lead the field when you look at sire
group sale averages in sales throughout the country.
