Explanation of Ratings on the Charolais Bulls Selling
First, I want to
emphasize
that every bull in this sale has met all our standards for quality and we would recommend to any
calf or packer buyer the calves out of any bull in the sale. However, to help our customers save time sale day, and make decisions
and improvements on non EPD traits for their herd, we have rated the bulls for traits with
H H H H H
being the highest
rating and
H
being the lowest between the bulls in this sale. In the past, we have used long footnotes to describe the phenotypic
differences in the bulls and we think this system is more comprehensive. These rankings are generally to measure where these
bulls rate within our herd but they’re also compared to Charolais bulls across the Charolais breed in general. i.e. One person
may want to emphasize disposition where as another person may need a change in frame size.
DISP
= Disposition - Every bull in this sale is very acceptably tame. However we scored the difference when in a small 12x12 pen by
themselves with people in each corner.
HHHHH
is the calmest and
HHHH
is very acceptable for most producers.
FRAME
= The difference in visual frame score based on projected mature hip height within our herd

indicates the bigger
framed bulls,

indicates less than average frame within our herd.

SUH was the high selling bull in the spring 2011 sale. His progeny
exhibit tremendous muscle thickness, body depth and spring of rib,
base width and exceptional correctness and fleshing ability. His dam is
a top producing female from a top cow family that is full of calving ease,
maternal and marbling. SUH is in the Top 20% of the breed for Weaning
EPD, Top 8% YW, and Top 1% Ribeye and top 6% for Marbling. Owned
with Sandmeier Charolais, SD.

Wrangler is an outcross sire we used for his combination of calving ease,
growth and carcass merit. He is extremely long bodied, smooth made, and
fast growing. He has a top set of numbers and is very complete.

Surefire is double bred to the sire of Twenty One. We used him for his
phenotype, exceptional calving ease and carcass merit. He is proven on heifers
with low birth weight and adds the muscle, shape and power of Twenty One
to his progeny.
