Annual Berger’s Herdmaster Bull Sale
Dear Friends,
This past year will go down in the record books as a year to remember if you are in the cow-calf business.
No one knows for sure what the future holds, but the market fundamentals certainly suggest several more
very profitable years ahead. Now is the time to invest some of the profit from your operation in the future of
your business. You will receive an excellent return on that investment by selecting the right genetics that
complement your cow herd. Here is why.
Data from many feedyards show that there is well over a $200/head difference in actual value in the same
weight feeder calf, based on his health, feedlot performance and carcass merit. There are companies now
measuring and documenting the value difference in those feeder calves. Cattlemen with genetically superior
calves will receive a premium price for their calves because they are truly worth more. Average and
inferior calves will also receive a price that reflects their true value. The day of all feeder cattle selling in a
very narrow range based on averages is coming to an end soon. I would be glad to give you names and
phone numbers of people who want to help you add value to your calves.
Herdmaster bulls will add value to your feeder calves and improve the productivity of your cow herd as
well. Plus, it is so easy to manage. Your can stabilize your herd at the breed combination that best fits your
resources and marketing plans. If your think a 3/4 Angus X 1/4 Simmental is your best combination and
you have straight bred Angus cows, use a 1/2 Angus X 1/2 Simmental bull the first generation and a 3/4
Angus X 1/4 Simmental bull on those resulting females. This allows you to keep your own replacement
heifers and improve the uniformity of your calf crop because they are all the same breed composition. You
keep hybrid vigor in your cow herd while producing feeder cattle that feedlots are looking for. I can give
you phone numbers of feedlots that love to feed Sim X Angus calves.
Our bulls are developed here at the ranch on a ration of corn silage, DDG, hay and supplement. We
reduced the energy in our ration compared to recent years.
However, the actual performance on test was
still quite good and the EPD’s (which is the most accurate way to compare bulls) are the best we have
ever produced.
This year we will have a video of each bull on our web site. This will allow you to evaluate the bulls much
easier and in the event that you can’t attend the sale, you can watch the sale video over the internet at the
DV Auctions web site. You can then bid over the internet (must pre-register to bid) or you can bid over the
free conference call. The bulls will be at the fairgrounds for your inspection, just like previous years.
Each year we buy bulls for people who can’t attend the sale. We guarantee that they will not spend any
more than they would if they had been at the sale themselves. We offer free board and delivery to those in
Nebraska and surrounding states. For other states we will split the cost of delivery.
As a Christian I conduct my business with the highest level of honesty and integrity. We serve our
customers, because your success is essential to our success.
