Two years ago, the American Angus
Association identified and started
offering a DNA test for the genetic
condition called Developmental Du-
plication or DD. It is believed to be
less than simple recessive in its
inheritance and very few affected
animals have ever been seen in the
entire industry. In fact there have
been a significant number of cattle
that show no symptoms or nega-
tive affects what so ever, even in
the homozygous state including lot
130 in this sale. This condition can
be effectively managed by strategic
DNA testing and avoidance of breed-
ing carrier females to carrier bulls.
To assist you with this we tested all
potential carrier animals of all breeds
and noted each tested carrier with
the letters DDC at the end of their
name in this catalog.
Because this condition is not domi-
nant, DDC animals show no physi-
cal problems and produce normally
when bred to DDF females. This con-
dition has only been found in cattle
of Angus origin. Therefore DDC
bulls can be used successfully on
any cows that donít have Angus in
them. If you have Angus influenced
cows that could potentially carry this
gene, then we recommend that you
use bulls that you know are DDF (DD
Free). All bulls in this sale are guar-
anteed DDF unless noted as DDC af-
ter their name.
All registered animals in this sale that
have a parent that is a potential car-
rier of any known genetic condition-
has been tested free of all known
genetic conditions other than DD.
Enhanced DNA technology is helping
scientists identify more and more
of these genetic conditions that are
believed to be found in all animals
including humans. They are not new,
just newly identified and with this
information we can better manage
breeding decisions to enhance your
profitability.
