DVAuction Online Catalogs - page 36

Welcome to another good year! Here at the ranch we have had more rain than normal and the pastures are
looking good. We have a lot of good horses this year.
Mid breeding season we unexpectedly lostWorld Champion, ShowMe ASong Joes to colic. He was an outstand-
ing stallion with world class talent and a record that was to be admired. We will really miss his influence here on
the Ranch. We would like to thank Mike VanEgdom and his family for allowing us to stand “Joe” here at Pitzer
Ranch and to promote a horse of his caliber. He was a sire to build a program on and this production sale is
going to be one of the last chances to own some of his genetics.
The most recent news in theQuarter Horse Industry is that AQHA registration numbers are on the rise. Most
stud farms are breeding more mares and it’s getting harder and harder to find horses offered for sale. Conse-
quently, we are finding that mares and stallions are starting to make their way to the top end of the horse sales.
Only second to the Breeder’s Cup, the World Series of Team Roping in Las Vegas is the second largest paying
horse event in the world, paying out over 10 million dollars. When you can win $150,000 at one roping, the value
of a go-to rope horse is higher.
I’ve scored our colts in July when we lead and brand them. Through the years, a lot of our regular customers
have requested the numbers so this year we are publishing them in the catalog. I rate them from 1-10 with 5
as a good, functional, average score and 10 is what I would consider “perfect”. The “zip code” looking scores, in
this order represent HEAD, NECK, BALANCE, MUSCLE then SIZE. The last number has a lot to do with the
age of the colt and is not a prediction of it’s adult size.
Come and enjoy the comradery and old-school, hard knocks competition of the HPI on September 9th as about
80 horses compete for about $70,000. It gives a glimpse of how our own family lines compare against each
other. Thursday, at 8 a.m. come watch the ranch crew present the amazing site of driving in the huge herd of
Pitzer Ranch mare & colt pairs to be penned for your inspection. At 1 p.m. we start the performance preview
of started colts and broke horses. It is a chance for all buyers to watch them perform and
narrow down their selections. If you have any questions be sure to ask. We
are here to help you find your next good horse.
We’ll see you at the Sale!
