Winter Greetings!
We want to send a huge THANK YOU to everyone who attended our 4rd
Annual Production Sale, held last January. We, as always, were humbled by the
turnout, and the appreciation for our cattle and breeding style. This year we
have continued to work with our herd to bring you an even deeper set of bulls
and females we believe can make an immediate impact on your herd. With our
current cattle markets, it is more important than ever to invest wisely in genetics
that will add dollars to your bottom line. Our customers can rest assured the
bulls they purchase from us will sire feeder calves with added pounds at weaning,
as well as replacement heifers who possess outstanding maternal traits. Time and
again, we have customers tell us when comparing the calves sired from Carswell-
Nichols genetics vs. other purchased bulls, Carswell-Nichols bulls add significant
pounds at weaning.
In our opinion, the strongest seedstock programs are built upon a foundation
of solid mama cows, and at our ranch the cows are our #1 priority. Keeping the
herd solid and performing at the highest level is our goal every day of every year.
Rigid culling for udder quality, fertility and structural soundness ensures there
is a solid, problem free cow behind all cattle we market, as well as the key to our
performance bulls. You are invited to stop by the ranch anytime to tour through
our cow herd and see first-hand the genetics in our breeding program.
The Carswell Hereford herd began 90 years ago, and has stood the test of time
while evolving into Carswell-Nichols Herefords. Last winter we added two new
polled herd sires, MH KMK Hometown 524 1ET (homozygous) and Churchill
Rock 646D ET. These bulls both combine calving ease, growth and high
carcass value.
This will be the first large set of Catapult 109 sons and are excited to be
offering these genetics you, our customers. In addition to natural services, our
program relies heavily on both A.I. and embryo transfer programs, which allows
us the opportunity to utilize some of the top genetics within the Hereford breed.
Our sire selection is far from single trait driven. We choose to focus on well-
rounded sires that incorporate balanced EPDs and whose sons grow efficiently,
are easy fleshing and phenotypically sound, yet maintain those core
maternal qualities.
Our heifer development program continues to grow as we add to our
facilities. This program allows us to offer continued services to you, our customer.
We offer development, breeding, calving and stocking options for all your open
and bred heifers.
We appreciate your past business and invite you to attend our 5th Annual
Production sale, January 27, 2017 at the ranch north of Alton. Feel free to contact
us for a sale catalog, or to view our herd anytime.
