Dear friends,
It is my pleasure to welcome you to our 18th annual production sale. This will be the second year our sale has been held on the farm in the Ellingson Event Center. Thanks to all who attended
last year and made it a great success, it was so much easier.and safer for us to use the video auction format and just have the animals to view outside, not having to worry about transportation
injury or bringing home some type of sickness..
I probably say this every year, but this is the best group of cattle we have ever offered. We look forward to your inspection of the new genetics we have on offer this year, including the sires
LFE The Riddler 323B, W/C United 956Y, TNT Bootlegger Z268 and CCR Cowboy Cut 5048Z to name a few. These along with the sires of sons we have sold in the past has reinforced the quality
and selection opportunities for you, with several sons of Silveiras Mission Nexus 1378, a Red Angus bull we started using for our customers wanting those half blood SimAngus bulls and heifers.
Unfortunately, he has quit producing semen and I am afraid there will be limited sons and daughters to purchase down the road, so take advantage of the offering that we have this year..
We are also excited about the calves that will have arrived by sale day sired by Harvie Red Summit 54B, a cherry red bull that won several championships in Canada. A daughter of his recently
sold for $32,500, if you are interested in semen, we own the US semen rights and you can contact us. We also bought a flush from the Red Jewel cow and are anxiously awaiting calves from Red
Summit and Executive Order..This will help broaden our female base and allow you some exciting new genetics.
It becomes ever more important if you are raising commercial cattle to take advantage of hybrid vigor and the advantages that heterosis offers. Our selection of bulls ranges from purebred
to half blood, both reds and blacks, to try to supply the needs of your herd. Our focus has been on performance since we.purchased our first Simmentals in 1990 and has not changed, incor-
porating calving ease and important carcass traits at the same time..
We have been able to utilize embryo transfer and thanks to the Dean and Twila Stroh family for allowing us to put embryos in their cowherd. The embryo calves are younger than most of ours
and sometimes the transition into a new group is not easy, but the EPD’s will show their true potential. We appreciate Trans Ova and Steve Yackley for doing such a great job with our donor cows..We
once again welcome McDonald Farm and Simmental and Strommen Simmentals as guest consignors. My herdsman Bryan Haugen works closely with the cattle and I appreciate his help.
The bulls and heifers were fed.a TMR to meet their requirements. The bulls were fed a 48 Mcal ration, it seemed they were gaining at the level I wanted and allowed for good development.
The maximum grain fed per day was ten pounds of a corn/distillers/vitamin and mineral mix along with corn silage, chopped alfalfa and grass hay. The heifers were fed a grower ration to allow
for sufficient development and high reproductive performance.
We will ultrasound all bulls and heifers.before the sale for rib eye, marbling and back fat. The bulls will also be fertility tested and scrotal measurements taken. Check on ellingsonsimmentals.com
for further updates on these measurements. The testing for polled/horned, color and dilution was all done by Igenity/Geneseek..
Our good friend Wayne Currah of Milestone Simmentals of Manitoba passed away last winter and he had purchased Dominators dam and had embryos produced at Trans Ova in South Dakota.
There are 24 embryos we will sell for him at the end of the sale, some full sibs to Ellingson Dominator W905 that is at ABS.
The sale will be video broadcast by DVAuction, so be sure to get registered before the sale and you can watch it at home should you be unable to make it sale day. The videos of the lots will
also be on our web site and also DVAuctions web site.
We invite your inspection of our sale cattle before the sale and welcome you to a noon meal at our heated shop. If you cannot make the sale and prefer not to bid on the internet, we will
have phone service available also, it might be best to contact us ahead of time if this is your desired method of bidding so we can have someone assigned to visit with you..
Once again, thank-you for your support and encouragement and taking the time to inspect our sale offering. We do appreciate your confidence in our breeding program and strive to meet
not only our goals but what you are looking for also. Please let us know if we can be any assistance to your selection process or have any further questions. We love talking Simmental and
SimAngus, be sure to look for performance genetics to maximize your profits in the coming years. We all eventually get paid by the pound of beef produced, we are here to help you achieve your
goals..Have a great 2018.
God Bless,
Terry Ellingson
