The Science and Sense
of Cattle Breeding
This will mark the fifth year we have offered SimAngus composite bulls in our annual sale. I have writ-
ten in the past concerning the background and history of crossbreeding. It certainly has been shown that
a planned approach to crossbreeding can provide an increase in production. That increase will come from
three areas, growth, fertility and maternal longevity.
Our customers have liked the bulls and today we are offering 24 of these bulls. I certainly like the concept
and believe this will be part of our offering for years to come. Most of these bulls are homozygous black and
polled. This means they will not sire red color or horns. There are some of the bulls that could possibly carry
a gene for red coat color or horns. They are clearly marked by each lot number for you. For those folks with a
high percentage of Angus in their cowherd and desire to add a percentage if another breed to that, these bulls
will get it done for you!
Make no mistake however, we are Angus breeders and will always be so. We believe the Angus cow is the
best beast on earth and we will continue to try to make her better. We are just trying to meet customer needs
with a unique product. Help yourself to some “Science and Sense.”
These progressive cattlemen have been using Wann Ranch bulls for many years with great results.
