Quality Genetics Built on a Heritage of Commitment
Welcome
Dear Friends,
2015 certainly had a hot start in late March when a combination of a mild dry winter and remnants of 2014 tinder
from an exceptional grass year was combined with an unknown source to create an unusual early season fire
in SD at the ranch. The Sheep Draw fire consumed 14,000 total acres and half of the ranch was burned by a
quick fire fueled high winds. Thanks to good neighbors and help from the fire community, no one was hurt and
the fire was brought under control in a few days. Minus some fence and a few cat cuts and disk tracks, the burn
transformed into a prairie golf course like no other in a matter of weeks with the cooperation of mother nature’s
timely spring rain. Rains continued throughout the summer on a regular basis, highly unusual for this area,
providing abundant grass and ample hay.We are still winter grazing at press time. Not quite the same scenario for
ND as periods of dryness kept production of grass and hay at average levels or less. However, we were fortunate
for cool temps and a wet fall and mild winter thus far. The cattle did well in these conditions and we are grateful
for the many blessings of 2015.
This year marks Heart River Ranch/Open A 10th annual production sale. We have been in the register cattle
business since 1996 and our aspirations to provide functional, efficient cattle that can be sustained in any
environment have not changed. We appreciate the many customers over the years that have been loyal to
our program. Your interest and patronage drives us to find the type of cattle that will provide genetics to work
efficiently in less than optimal conditions. Your friendship is a valued treasure and it has been a pleasure to be
part of the beef cattle business where the people involved are the salt of the earth.
Video, carcass ultrasound and other sale information will be posted on
and www.
heartrivergenetics.com as we approach sale day. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions. Bulls are
available for inspection at the development lot 4 miles south of Belfield on Highway 85 and then ½ mile west
on 40th St SW. We welcome your visit any time. Let us know if we can provide any assistance or answer any
questions you have concerning the bulls. Our goal is to know that you, our customers are getting a sustainable
return for your operation by investing in our bulls.
You are also invited to join us on Tuesday afternoon to listen to guest speaker, Dr. Tom Noffsinger, who is
an international know speaker, talking on the topic of cattle handling. Then stay around for a social and a
complimentary prime rib supper at the development lot sale barn on March 8, 2016. We look forward to having
you as our guest on March 8 and 9, 2016. Thank you for your friendship, your loyalty and past patronage.
