W
elcome to the Annual South Central Red Genetics Spring
sale! What a great time to be in the cattle business—with a
continuing decline in beef cattle numbers, progressive
breeders are rebuilding their herds to capitalize on some of the greatest
beef prices in history. Although not everyone has completely recovered
from the drought in the Southern Plains, the rebuilding process has
begun with ranchers in search of cattle that are extremely efficient.
Red Angus cattle are known to be efficient converting feed stuffs,
along with calm dispositions and that red hide color that improves heat
tolerance.
With that selecting the right bull to rebuild your cow herd could be
one of the most important decisions in keeping your operation
profitable. Performance tested bulls have proven records to back up
their quality and performance.
That is why we have once again tested the bulls at North Central
Texas College in Gainesville, TX. NCTC handles all the performance
information including ADG, WDA, fertility testing, scrotal size, frame
size, and ultrasound scan data. This allows you to see the individual
performance of a potential herd sire while he is measured against bulls
of similar age in the same feeding environment.
As we sorted through the bulls in early January we were blown
away with the condition of the bulls. This is an awesome set of bulls
from top to bottom! These bulls have come from extremely different
environments stretching from the Gulf Coast of southern Texas to
southern Iowa and it was amazing how consistent they were. There is
also a huge amount of low birth weight bulls if you are in that
rebuilding process and still want that added weight at weaning time.
Come early because it will take some time to sort through these bulls!
The spring bulls were ultrasound scanned after catalog printing so all
of their test data will be available on our website at
to view before the sale.
We have also assembled an awesome selection of Red Angus
females this year! Featuring a partial dispersal of the reputation
Henderson Farms- Diamond JH herd! Jerry (and June with twisted
arm) are letting go of some of the foundation cows that built this herd--
genetics like these are hard to find! These lots will include bred cows,
bred heifers and cow/calf pairs—Do Not miss these lots!! There will
also be a great selection of open heifers and commercial Red Angus
females.
We invite you to come and evaluate all the cattle for yourself at the
Red River Livestock Market in Ardmore, (Overbrook) Oklahoma
February 22nd. The cattle will be available for viewing starting at noon
on Friday the 21st with a pre-sale social from 5-7pm. Also a special
treat this year is our Cattle symposium featuring a presentation from
the Noble Foundation on Saturday morning from 9-10am. If you are
unable to attend the sale you can watch and bid online at
. If we can assist you in any way please feel free
to call us, Jerry Henderson or any of the other buyer representatives.
Thank You,
Alex & Stacy Richards
