Young Red Angus breeders
An annual mentoring program connecting young Kansas mentees
(Ages 14-20) interested in the Red Angus breed with volunteer Kansas
Red Angus breeders as mentors willing to share their experiences and
insight with the next generation of Red Angus leaders.
Mentees will fill out application listing their goals and objectives prior to setting up the
mentorship. The 12 month program will encourage the mentoring pairs to commit to a minimum
of 1 meeting (by phone or in person) per month devoted to the goals and progress of the
mentee. At the end of the year a summary will be written and presented at the KRA Field Day.
Requirements of Mentee:
Ages of Mentees (14-20) High School through college aged
4-H or FFA highly encouraged, but not a requirement
KJRA annual membership dues
Parental support may include transportation, expenses for mentee
s beef animal and
visitation by mentors.
Requirements of Mentor:
Time for visitations and phone calls with mentee
Depending on goals of mentee may involve donation of semen, E.T., or transfer of
heifer calf for a year.
Education on EPD’s, feeding, heat synchronization, and R
EDS Pro
Opportunity to assist in marketing Red Angus cattle and sales of mentee’s cattle.
In the future - Mentors may include industry partners for a mentorship focused
on agriculture careers.
(Examples; ag business, animal health and nutrition, feedlot
management, etc.)
